Description

About Working at envelio Too easy is boring! Together, we are on a mission to drive forward the energy transition. We love what we do, and we are unafraid to dive in. We believe in taking ownership of our work and in continuously growing and evolving. In short: own it, love it, grow with it. We are a humble team of coffee and maté lovers with over 20 nationalities. With our geek humor, our love for emojis and random facts is only natural. Over 150 envelians are already on board. Dive in and thrive! Your Role As Senior   Backend Engineer Electrical Engineering (all genders)   you will be part of an engineering squad with strong knowledge of electrical engineering, coding, databases, and software architecture. Additionally to your software engineering work, you will be acting as an expert for electrical power systems towards internal and external stakeholders, especially regarding general domain knowledge of electrical grids and relevant calculation methodologies. Together with the team, you drive the topics surrounding electrical power system engineering and electrical/mathematical models and algorithms, have an impact on the experience of our users, our organization, and our engineering practices. How You Make an Impact You are part of a cross-functional department and team (backend, frontend, DevOps developers, design and product owner) and develop state of the art electrical engineering related applications which bring effective customer value You design, enhance and implement electrical engineering workflows and mathematical solvers in accordance with the current state of technology and best practices You are part of the conceptualizing and developing of professional backend solutions to continuously evolve our product in an agile working environment together with internal and external stakeholders You demonstrate expert knowledge in the area of power grids and associated calculation methods towards internal and external stakeholders and enable them to utilize the software in an optimal way Your Profile Perfection is a myth! We’re more interested in the human behind the screen, so think of these criteria as helpful directions — we're excited to see how your unique skills might fit in. You have a background in electrical engineering, with a profound knowledge of the electrical distribution system and its structure and equipment modeling (e.g. conductor modeling, transformer modeling, earthing concepts & equipment, ideally also asymmetric elements like center-tapped/split-phase transformers and transformer banks) You have profound knowledge about calculation methods for grid calculations (power flow, short-circuit/fault calculations, reliability calculations). Ideal is additional knowledge about state estimation and general optimization problems.  You have practical experience in programming - 3 years or more - in the context of electrical engineering and mathematical algorithms (Python, ideally also C++, Go or Rust), software design and architecture principles.  You see yourself as a generalist who enjoys writing code, interacting and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders and educating others in the field of power systems engineering You are able to communicate complex topics in power systems engineering clearly and effectively, and can translate sophisticated customer problems into actionable product requirements, especially in the area of utilities and electricity DSOs. You are a team player and passionate about working with talented and inspiring people You are looking for technical challenges and pride yourself in finding smart and creative solutions You are business-fluent in English (Level C1) Ideally you are familiar with parts of our tech stack, with current software design principles and are looking forward to keeping up with current industry best practices How we develop Software Agile working method with Kanban in cooperation of all squads Continuous integration / Continuous delivery Clean (and simple) code, documentation High unit test coverage and regular code reviews Knowledge sharing sessions between developers “You Code it – You Own it” – Team responsibility for certain functional areas of the product Our Tech Stack Python, incl. additional frameworks, Pytest and Celery  Modern C++20 for computationally intensive tasks  PostgreSQL  RabbitMQ, Redis  Docker, Kubernetes Your Benefits Join us fully remote or at our lovely office in Cologne in a hybrid working mode Option for remote work from abroad (up to three months per year from anywhere in the EU or the USA) State of the art technology and modern tech stack  Excellent hardware equipment (16 inch MacBooks, 2 screens at your workplace)  30 holidays + 3 corporate holidays   Support for your health through sports membership cooperations   Flexible use of a monthly mobility budget (e.g. Jobrad, public transport)  Time and resources for individual growth   envelio pension plan   Regular company and team events
