Description About the Senator John Heinz History Center The Senator John Heinz History Center is a Smithsonian-affiliated museum and a first-day Pittsburgh attraction that presents compelling stories from American history with a Western Pennsylvania connection, all in an interactive and engaging environment for visitors of all ages. The largest history museum in Pennsylvania, the AAM-accredited History Center attracts large and diverse audiences to its 370,000-square-foot facility in Pittsburgh’s historic Strip District that includes six floors of long-term and changing exhibition space along with spectacular spaces for unique events. The History Center’s family of museums includes the Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum, a dynamic museum-within-a-museum; the Fort Pitt Museum in Point State Park; and Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village, a National Historic Landmark located in Avella, Washington County, Pa. The History Center also leads a partnership of more than 125 regional historical societies, museums, and organizations dedicated to preserving local history – the History Center Affiliates Program. A popular destination for families and visitors to our region, the History Center attracts more than 300,000 visitors annually and reaches millions through virtual programs and digital outreach. About the Position The Heinz History Center, Pittsburgh’s oldest cultural institution (1879), is seeking an enthusiastic, full-time Volunteer / Intern Coordinator to lead and grow our volunteer & intern programs. The Volunteer/Intern Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the successful recruitment, selection, retention, training, and placement of all unpaid staff (volunteers & interns). The primary purpose of this position is to lead the History Center’s volunteer program of over 200+ individuals and to recruit, screen, and on-board seasonal (fall, spring, and summer) interns. Under the direction of the Chief Human Resources Officer, the successful candidate will ensure the volunteer/intern needs of all departments are being met, develop recruitment strategies with an emphasis on volunteers and interns from diverse backgrounds and skills, place volunteers, evaluate volunteer positions and coordinate with Department Heads and Division Directors in the placement of interns. The Volunteer/Intern Coordinator will work cooperatively with all departments to recruit and schedule appropriate quantity and quality of volunteers to assist staff with ongoing and specific tasks, events and activities, and maintain the Volgistics volunteer management software. The Coordinator will ensure that all internship opportunities provide a valuable experience for the student. The successful candidate must be familiar with volunteer management software or have the ability to quickly, self-learn. The Volunteer/Intern Coordinator may be asked to provide administrative support to the Chief Human Resources Officer and will assist as needed with filing and conducting volunteer, intern, and new staff orientation and on-boarding. This is a full-time, salary, non-exempt position that reports to the Chief Human Resources Officer. The History Center is an Equal Opportunity Employer. The primary purpose of this position is to lead the History Center&rsquo;s volunteer program of over 200+ individuals and to recruit, screen, and on-board seasonal (fall, spring, and summer) interns. Under the direction of the Chief Human Resources Officer, the successful candidate will ensure the volunteer/intern needs of all departments are being met, develop recruitment strategies with an emphasis on volunteers and interns from diverse backgrounds and skills, place volunteers, evaluate volunteer positions and coordinate with Department Heads and Division Directors in the placement of interns.
