    "description": "<h2>Overview</h2>\n<p>The Assistant Professor plays a pivotal role in the masters Program in Teaching Literacy, PreK-12. Working closely with the Program Chair, the individual is responsible for designing and delivering program courses that focus on teaching literacy skills to students in the PreK-12 grade levels and ensuring overall program effectiveness. The successful candidate must have a strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in literacy education. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the professor advises and supervises masters-degree candidates, actively participates in faculty collaborative learning, GAE committees and demonstrates scholarly productivity in the field of literacy education.</p>\n<h2>Responsibilities</h2>\n<ul>\n <li>Designs, revises, and teaches graduate courses in Touro University Master's Program in Teaching Literacy, PreK-12, both in online and occasional in-person formats in New York City and adjacent areas</li>\n <li>Maintains knowledge of current PreK-12 literacy curricula, including literacy education methodologies</li>\n <li>Experience with assessment and effective teaching methodologies for students with diverse needs utilizing a variety of instructional delivery methods, instructional and assistive technologies, and educational resources for educational equity and access, both in online and in-person settings</li>\n <li>Supervises candidates during clinical practice</li>\n <li>Serves as an instructional leader, facilitating and participating with collaborative faculty teams, course revisions, and developing and sustaining transformative pedagogy in graduate teaching and learning, whether online or in-person</li>\n <li>Builds and maintains clinical partnerships with schools and mentors in PreK-12 education, fostering connections and contributes to the development of a clinically rich teacher education preparation program</li>\n <li>Provides academic advisement to program candidates and outreach to potential candidates</li>\n <li>Maintains a current record of scholarly activities and publications, as well as professional service</li>\n <li>Serves on Graduate School of Education committees, participating in both online and in-person meetings as required</li>\n <li>Supports and contributes to program level continuous improvement for national/professional accreditation</li>\n <li>Engages in successful grant writing</li>\n <li>Upholds the missions and values of Touro University and the Graduate School of Education in both online and in-person contexts</li>\n <li>Attends three in-person faculty retreats per academic year in September, January, and June</li>\n <li>Performs other duties as assigned, which may include both online and in-person responsibilities</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Qualifications</h2>\n<h4>Education/Experience</h4>\n<ul>\n <li>Earned doctorate in Education, or related field, ABD with anticipated conferral date within one year of hire considered</li>\n <li>Successful PreK-12 classroom teaching experience of three or more years, working with students who have diverse learning needs</li>\n <li>Successful experience in assessment and data use in the PreK-12 classroom with evidence of positive learning and development for diverse groups of students</li>\n <li>Experience in course and program design</li>\n <li>Commitment to culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogy</li>\n <li>Demonstrated ability for scholarly productivity</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Desired Qualifications:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Evidence of success as an educator preparer at the college or university level in traditional classrooms and online, including familiarity with online teaching platforms and programs</li>\n <li>Experience using Canvas and other technology in educational settings</li>\n <li>Active involvement in professional organizations</li>\n <li>Successful grant writing</li>\n <li>Expertise in urban education</li>\n <li>Experience with students with multiple special needs</li>\n <li>Knowledge of school and community-based programs and experience building partnerships in diverse communities is highly desirable</li>\n</ul>\n<h4>Knowledge/Skills/Abilities</h4>\n<ul>\n <li>Excellent communication, teaching, and interpersonal/intercultural skills across a wide range of mediums (including social media)</li>\n <li>Technology Skills - Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Power Point, & Outlook</li>\n <li>Proficiency in online learning platforms including Canvas, Adobe Connect, Zoom, PlayPosit, Yuja and other digital media</li>\n</ul>\n<h4>Certifications/Licensures</h4>\n<ul>\n <li>Please include a cover letter with salary expectations.</li>\n</ul>\n<h4>Travel</h4>\n<ul>\n <li>Some travel to Touro University GSE sites in New York City, including occasional evenings</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Maximum Salary</h2>USD $79,000.00/Yr.\n<h2>Minimum Salary</h2>USD $63,200.00/Yr.",
