Roles and Responsibilities
The primary role is to support the foreman in installing fences/decks in a professional, high-quality, and timely manner. This includes learning from the foreman, both through observation as well as overt training. And always demonstrate company values on the job. This role has the potential to move into a foreman role quickly based on performance reviews, leadership capabilities, and quality of work. Specific responsibilities include the following:
As you gain experience, help think through the job and make sure you have the necessary tools and supplies to complete the job before you leave the shop
Make it your personal responsibility to place a yard sign while foreman talks to the customer before job start
Assist the foreman in taking responsibility for the care of your truck and tools: includes keeping truck clean and tools and supplies organized
Take direction from the foreman with a good attitude. Look for what needs to be done and try to anticipate what will be needed next
As able, learn tips, tricks, strategies, and particulars from the foreman. Observe and learn. Try to understand what, how, and why things are done a certain way. Look for opportunities to learn skills such as gate installation, running a line of fence, cutting post tops, steps, railing installation, etc.
Watch for and eliminate hazards and unsafe practices during the installation
Respect crew members and customers by avoiding profanity, crude conversations, and loud music. As an individual and as a team, you are responsible to represent our company and values at all times while on the clock
Keep trash picked up and site as clean as possible throughout the day, and clean up well at the end; think about the customer coming home and look for what he/she might see that could have been done better
Essential Job-Related Requirements
Installation experience required, leadership experience preferred.
Capability to work quickly and efficiently while maintaining quality, construction experience preferred.
A positive attitude, readiness to learn, willingness to follow another, self-motivation, adaptability, ability to see what needs to be done, and readiness to serve others.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in various construction activities such as framing, digging footings, and managing materials.
Operate hand and power tools safely and effectively.
Follow work instructions and building plans to meet project specifications.
Measure, cut, and shape materials according to project requirements.
Load and unload materials and equipment from delivery trucks.
Ensure job sites are kept clean and organized, removing debris and hazards as needed.
Adhere to safety standards and protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Report any unsafe conditions or incidents to the supervisor immediately.
Collaborate with team members and other trades to complete projects on time and within budget.
Attend safety meetings and training as required.
Physical Demands The physical demands listed below are representative of those that must be met by a Crew member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:
Lifting and Carrying: Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to [specify weight, e.g., 50 pounds] regularly throughout the workday.
Standing and Walking: Prolonged periods of standing and walking on various terrains, including uneven surfaces and scaffolding.
Bending and Squatting: Frequent bending, squatting, and kneeling required to perform tasks such as laying foundations, installing fixtures, and handling materials.
Climbing: Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding, often at significant heights, to perform work tasks safely.
Reaching and Grasping: Continuous reaching overhead and forward to manipulate tools and materials.
Stamina and Endurance: Ability to work in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain) for extended periods, often engaged in repetitive tasks throughout the day.
Coordination and Balance: Maintaining balance while performing tasks on scaffolding and ladders.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Previous construction experience or training in the construction field.
Familiarity with safety practices and regulations in the construction industry.
Ability to read and interpret technical documents.
Strong teamwork and communication skills.
Working Conditions
Work is conducted primarily outdoors on construction sites, with exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, and dust.
May involve working near heavy machinery and equipment.
Availability to work flexible hours, including overtime as required.
