The Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) Department at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a PRT Electrician II. About the Opportunity: The Morgantown Personal Rapid Transit System (PRT) is an automated public transit system consisting of 73 driverless vehicles, 5 passenger stations, 2 maintenance facilities, 9 miles of dedicated guideway and a vast array of ancillary equipment. This position oversees and coordinates activities of workers engaged in repair and maintenance of PRT electrical systems. Responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of power distribution systems, vehicle light rail systems and its components. To accomplish the maintenance mission, this position works primarily midnight shift throughout the transit system, indoors and outdoors under various/extreme weather conditions. Because this is a safety sensitive position, it requires drug testing. We strongly believe in work-life balance and keeping time for things we love outside our work. Ensures that all work complies with National/Local electrical codes and that safe work practices are followed. Performs detailed scheduled maintenance inspections, troubleshooting, installation, and repairs to a variety of PRT installations and ancillary equipment and services such as: 120/240/277/480- and 23000-volt 3 phase power distribution systems; Lighting and lighting remote control devices; Remote monitoring and alarm devices; Electric motors, fans, generators, etc. PRT vehicle power collectors; PRT vehicle propulsion motors; 23000/575 volt substation testing and maintenance . Performs detailed scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and safety inspections to light rail system and components: Diagnosis, alignment, repair, and overhaul of light rail system as operated by the PRT; 575 volt 3 phase power distribution system and 40 remotely controlled breakers. Maintains, troubleshoots and repairs 35 miles of power rail and rail heating system (includes 65 remotely controlled switching and overload protection devices. Performs a variety of miscellaneous maintenance support activities necessary to support the overall maintenance mission, including: High voltage testing, and repair; Implements emergency response plans and actions for unplanned or emergency events; Routinely communicates with other PRT employees via handheld UHF radio to provide vital information . Participates in PRT vehicle recoveries and functions as a MOCU (Manual Override Control Unit) operator. Works in confined spaces. Interprets maintenance manuals, schematics, and drawings. Assesses task needs and organizes tools and materials to support efficient remote task accomplishment. Maintains assigned tools and is responsible for tool inventory.
