Youth LEADER - RUSD JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Youth Leader - RUSD FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Classification: Part Time Salary Range: $21.00 per hr.
Reports to: Area Supervisor
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the After School Area Supervisor, the Youth leader provide support to students enrolled in the After School Program (ASES) including but not limited to homework support, enrichment activities, and supervised recreation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Communication
Develop and maintain positive, professional relationships with school site, parents, children and staff
Communicate with parents regarding their child on a daily basis
Agency Leadership:
Follow policies in own role which are determined by others; no responsibility and leadership required for service development, but may be required to comment on policies, procedures, or possible developments
Job Complexity:
Supervise day-to-day activities of the program while maintaining ratios within contract
Redirect inappropriate child behavior, provide disciplinary action, and notify Site Supervisor when necessary. Provide academic homework assistance
Accountability:
Maintain a clean and orderly designated school space
Ensure the safety, security, and well-being of students enrolled in the program
Decision Making:
Judgments and decisions are guided by YMCA program policies, contracts and guidelines
Staff Supervision:
Ordinarily, no supervisory responsibility except occasional project based work
ABILITY TO:
supervise and work well with children demonstrate regular, dependable attendance and punctuality Strong communications skills with the ability to follow written and verbal instructions Typical Elementary work schedule
Youth Leads M-F 1:30 -6:15 (4.75 hours per day)
Minimum Days (typically Mondays): 11:00-6:15
Typical Middle School work schedule
Youth Leaders M-F 2:30-6:30 (4 hours per day)
Minimum Days (typically Mondays): 12:30-6:30

QUALIFICATIONS:
One year experience working with school-aged children in a school program or in other youth-related activities. Must have completed at least 72 quarter units or 48 semester units at an accredited College or University, or pass the NCLB (No Child Left Behind) examination. Specialized certification in Martial Arts, Crafts/Arts, Dance, Sport, cooking, etc. Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate
program activities. Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings. At least one-year experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds. Bilingual in Spanish is a plus. Understands the YMCA is a public accommodation committed to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Available to work 5 days a week as assigned during program hours (varies by grade level) & must have reliable transportation. CPR, First Aid, certifications and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date. Upon initial hiring, employees are required to obtain current negative TB test, drug test clearance and background clearance.
