Description

Overview The Director of the Clinical Skills Center, Standardized Patient (SP) & Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) Program provides operational leadership and educational oversight for standardized patient–based instruction and assessment across the osteopathic medical curriculum. This position ensures high-quality simulation experiences and OSCEs that support competency-based medical education and meet COCA accreditation standards for clinical skills training, communication, professionalism, and osteopathic patient care. The program also serves other health sciences programs on campus including: Physician Assistant Studies, the School of Nursing, and the College of Pharmacy. The Director collaborates with faculty, curriculum leaders, and assessment teams to ensure reliable learner evaluation and meaningful formative feedback that advances clinical competence. Responsibilities Primary Responsibilities OSCE & Assessment Leadership • Lead planning, implementation, and quality assurance of formative and summative OSCEs as well as other standardized patient encounters. • Ensure reliability and validity of SP-based assessment tools and scoring processes. • Support competency-based evaluation aligned with osteopathic clinical competencies and milestones, as well as the competencies for other health sciences programs served by the Clinical Skills Center. • Maintain exam integrity, case security, and standardized scoring procedures. Standardized Patient Program Management • Oversee the recruitment, training, scheduling, and evaluation of standardized patients to ensure consistent case portrayal. • Train SPs to provide structured feedback and complete assessment checklists. • Maintain SP performance standards to support high-stakes assessment reliability. Curricular & Educational Support • Collaborate with faculty to develop SP cases aligned with osteopathic principles and curricular objectives, and curricular objectives of other health sciences programs. • Support SP activities in clinical skills training, communication instruction, and remediation. • Promote patient-centered communication and culturally responsive care. Quality Assurance & Accreditation Support • Maintain policies, documentation, and program outcomes supporting COCA accreditation requirements, and the accreditation requirements of other health sciences programs served by the Clinical Skills Center. • Monitor SP scoring consistency and implement continuous quality improvement processes. • Collect and analyze program data to inform curricular and assessment improvements. Operations & Collaboration • Coordinate scheduling, logistics, and program operations. • Manage SP payroll processes and program resources. • Serve as liaison among faculty, simulation staff, and SPs. • Provide faculty support on SP methodology and effective feedback. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES (if applicable): should reflect who the employee is supervising and what the expectations are. • Standardize Patient Trainer • Standardize Patients Qualifications Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in health sciences, education, communications, theater, or related field (Master’s preferred). Experience in standardized patient programs, simulation-based education, or health professions education. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in medical education, educational psychology, or related field. Experience supporting OSCEs or performance-based clinical assessments. Experience in medical and/or health sciences education or competency-based assessment. Familiarity with COCA standards and clinical skills accreditation expectations. Experience with assessment platforms and simulation technologies. Professional engagement with ASPE or Society for Simulation in Healthcare. CORE COMPETENCIES: identify the behavior an employee is expected to demonstrate. Strong organizational, communication, and program management skills. Competence in software management on the leave of a user. Experience and/or training in the rationale and management of clinical skills and OSCE learning exercises and exams. Ability to work with faculty with varying degrees of sophistication in terms of pedagogical goals and planning, the use if standardize patients for a variety of educational experiences. Maximum Salary USD $105,895.82/Yr. Minimum Salary USD $84,716.66/Yr.
