Key Responsibilities Uses professional judgment to adapt imaging procedures to ensure quality diagnostic outcomes. Selects the most appropriate and cost-effective action plan after reviewing all pertinent data and assessing the patient’s abilities and condition. Selects appropriate shielding devices and appropriate immobilization devices. Evaluates lab values prior to administering contrast media or radioactive isotopes. Performs venipuncture, IV patency and maintenance according to established guidelines. Administers radioactive materials and or contrast agents according to established guidelines. Observes patient and equipment during procedures, documents patient reactions or problems on requisitions and reports immediately to supervisor. Reconfirms patient identification using two unique identifiers (Name and DOB) and verifies procedure requested. Verifies female patient pregnancy status when appropriate. Assesses factors that may contraindicate the procedure, such as medications or insufficient patient preparation. Documents patient and exam occurrences in PACS/RIS to include exam start complete times. Qualifications Demonstrates a high degree of knowledge in Nuclear Medicine and in Positron Emission Tomography (PET) to include knowledge and abilities in basic and complex diagnostic NM and PET procedures. Abilities and knowledge in managing a patient care environment with increased exposure to infectious diseases, carcinogens and radiation. Knowledge of Computerized Tomography imaging procedures and technology to include knowledge of specifications, standards, and tolerances for the operation of CT equipment. Education: Graduate of a Nuclear Medicine Technology program. Certification/Licensure: Current registration and licensure by the Arizona Department of Health Services (AZDHS). Current registration and licensure by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) in Nuclear Medicine (NM) or Current Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) certification. BLS certification through the American Heart Association. Preferences Education preferred from an accredited program for Nuclear Medicine Technology via ARRT or Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist via NMTCB Work Requirements Ability to safely lift and physically manipulate patients. Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel. Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to analyze and apply theory to practice skills. Standing and walking for periods of 2 hours or longer. Possible exposure to blood product and radiation. Lifting equipment up to 50lbs, and pushing equipment up to 150lbs and assisting with the movement of an adult patient weighing up to 300lbs Concentration, visual and auditory acuity for watching monitors and following instructions during procedures.
