This role is ideal for an experienced backend engineer who still loves building and shipping software but is ready to take the next step toward technical leadership.</p><p><br></p><p>You’ll partner closely with Product and Engineering leadership to architect and deliver scalable solutions for a greenfield product while helping guide engineering best practices, mentoring teammates, and influencing technical direction. This is an opportunity for someone who has naturally become a technical leader on past teams – the person others rely on for design decisions, code reviews, and unblocking complex problems – and who is eager to grow into broader engineering leadership over time.</p><p><br></p><p>If you are a hands-on engineer who enjoys solving difficult technical challenges, collaborating across teams, and helping elevate those around you, we’d love to meet you!</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Key Responsibilities:</strong></p><p><br></p><p><strong>Technical Leadership &amp; Architecture</strong></p><ul><li>Lead back-end architecture and development for a modern healthcare platform using NestJS and TypeScript</li><li>Partner with Product and Design to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions</li><li>Make thoughtful architecture and system design decisions for a greenfield product environment</li><li>Contribute hands-on across the stack, including React and React Native applications as needed</li><li>Drive engineering best practices around code quality, testing, documentation, observability, and performance</li><li>Conduct code reviews, mentor engineers and contractors, and provide technical guidance across the team</li><li>Help identify and resolve technical blockers while improving team delivery velocity and collaboration</li><li>Support and maintain portions of our legacy Django/Postgres platform as needed</li><li>Team Collaboration &amp; Growth</li><li>Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Designers, QA, and Engineering leadership to deliver high-quality features</li><li>Act as a technical anchor for the team, helping prioritize work and align technical decisions with business goals</li><li>Partner with offshore and contractor teams to support delivery and maintain engineering standards</li><li>Contribute to process improvements across SDLC, AIDLC, release management, and engineering operations</li><li>Grow into broader engineering leadership responsibilities over time, including people leadership opportunities</li></ul><p><strong>Experience:</strong></p><ul><li>7–10 years of professional software engineering experience</li><li>Strong hands-on back-end development experience with NestJS and TypeScript</li><li>Experience working with modern front-end frameworks such as React and/or React Native</li><li>Experience designing and building scalable distributed systems and APIs</li><li>Demonstrated experience serving as a technical lead, mentor, or key technical decision-maker on a team</li><li>Experience working in agile product development environments</li><li>Experience with Django and Postgres is a plus</li><li>Healthcare or telehealth industry experience is a plus</li></ul><p><strong>Skills</strong>:</p><ul><li>Strong system design and architecture skills</li><li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills</li><li>Ability to balance hands-on development with technical leadership responsibilities</li><li>Strong problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills</li><li>Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving startup-like environment</li><li>Passion for mentoring engineers and improving team processes</li><li>Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across distributed teams</li></ul><p>First Stop Health is committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
