Essential Duties and Responsibilities
As a senior Radiation Protection Technician 4 (RCT 4) this role consists of but not limited to:
Perform the full range of RCT support activities and serves as the primary point of contact for planning, coordination of resources;
Ensure resolution of conflicting demands in highly dynamic and challenging conditions that require ability as a strong tactical decision maker;
Ensure that radiological controls are correctly applied for radiological work, including high-hazard radiological work, by serving as authorized subject matter expert for development of radiological work control packages (RWCPs);
Provide coordination of work area resources as needed to ensure safe and efficient operations;
Fulfill customer radiation protection requests while ensuring established RP-1 priorities are followed;
May include technical supervision responsibilities, includes responsibility for providing technical leadership and review; and
Work effectively with customers and supervision to resolve problems including elevation of issues beyond the ability of the RCT 4 to resolve.
Assignments may be broad or narrowly focused, but usually require contributions of original work.
Responsibility for coordination and participation in developing the final product working with the requestor.
Develops solutions to complex problems that require the regular use of ingenuity, creativity, and independence.
Completed work is reviewed from a relatively long-term perspective, for desired results. Incumbent exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignments, which may be completed without established procedures.
Contributions of technicians at this level are normally expected to be of sufficient value to have some impact on the outcome of entire project or group accomplishments. Through actions and words, demonstrates excellence in safety and compliance to RCTs co-workers and customers.
Consequence of error may include serious radiological safety events, including injury to self or others, as well as noncompliance with 10CFR835, with potential for Laboratory fines under the Price-Anderson
Assignments may be broad or narrowly focused but usually require contributions of substantial independent effort.
Education and Licensure
High school diploma and at least 4 years (4-6 years preferred) of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
Due to federal contract security requirements, this position requires U.S. Citizenship. (required)
Due to federal contract security requirements, candidates must be able to successfully pass a federal background investigation to secure and maintain DOE Q security clearance. (required)
Ability to work onsite.
Ability to pass Radiological Worker II training.
Essential Job Functions (can perform with or without reasonable accommodation):
Ability to lift and/or move up to 49 pounds unaided and 50-100 pounds with assistance and/or proper engineering controls;
Specific vision abilities for the position include Reading vision; Peripheral Vision, Depth Perception;
The employee must be able to speak and hear in a normal range (500 to 3000 htz);
Ability to sit, crawl, stand, walk, run, and climb; in addition to reaching overhead, horizontally, and down; free from chronic wounds or chronic rashes which disrupt the integrity of the skin that would prevent safe entry into controlled areas;
Ability to use stairways, fixed ladders, and ladders up to six feet; and
Must be physically able to work in demanding environments.
Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing required.
Ability to anticipate problems and handle unforeseen issues. Amendments Act.
Work involves moderate physical demands, such as lifting and carrying radiation protection instruments and wearing personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection.
Work may be outdoors and may be scheduled at time other than regular work hours. Normally requires extensive experience in supporting radiological activities and facilities and in applying operational health physics to work.
RCT 4 is considered a senior-skilled level.
Demonstrated skills and knowledge beyond those expected to be found at Level 3;
Apply extensive knowledge and skills to complete specialized tasks and has full knowledge of other related disciplines.
Comprehensive understanding of general and technical aspects of the job.
Please note that marijuana remains a Schedule III controlled substance under Federal Law. Federal contractors must follow Federal drug-free workplace rules, which prohibit marijuana use, even if medical or recreational use is permitted under State Law.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & LOCATION DETAILS:
The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM.
May require 24/7 shift coverage. Employees may be eligible for shift differential pay when assigned.
Per-Diem eligible.
