Additionally, we focus on developing youth leadership through our programs. Our goal is to empower younger participants by providing them with opportunities to take on leadership roles during both the school year and summer. These youth leaders will assist our staff in planning and implementing a variety of activities, such as swimming, new sports, homework help, and serving as chaperones. In doing so, they will not only contribute to the success of these programs but also serve as positive role models for their peers. Key Duties and Responsibilities - Assist in Planning and Leading Activities: Peer Leaders help staff plan and facilitate various activities for younger participants, such as sports, arts, academic support, and team-building exercises, ensuring the activities are engaging and enjoyable. - Provide Mentorship and Guidance: Peer Leaders serve as positive role models for younger youth, offering guidance, encouragement, and support. They help foster a positive and inclusive environment by providing advice on both academic and personal matters. - Support Program Staff: Peer Leaders assist staff with daily program operations, including setting up activities, supervising groups, and ensuring all participants are safe and engaged throughout the program. - Assist with Homework and Academic Support: During after-school and summer programs, Peer Leaders may offer academic support, helping younger participants with homework, reading, and other learning activities to promote educational success. - Promote Teamwork and Positive Behavior: Peer Leaders encourage teamwork, cooperation, and positive behavior among participants. They help manage group dynamics, resolve conflicts, and ensure all youth feel included and respected. - These responsibilities provide Peer Leaders with opportunities to develop their leadership skills while making a positive impact on the program and their peers. The Ideal Candidate for this Job - Strong Communication Skills: Peer Leaders must be able to effectively communicate with both youth participants and staff. They should be able to explain activities, provide feedback, and offer guidance in a clear and respectful manner. - Leadership and Teamwork Abilities: Ideal candidates should have experience in or a strong desire to take on leadership roles. They must be able to work well with others, demonstrate teamwork, and motivate peers in a positive and supportive way. - Responsibility and Reliability: Peer Leaders must be dependable, punctual, and responsible, as they will often be trusted with supervising younger participants and assisting in program activities. Consistency in showing up on time and fulfilling duties is essential. - Ability to Handle Conflicts: Peer Leaders should be able to manage conflicts calmly and fairly, helping to resolve disagreements between youth participants while maintaining a positive and safe environment. - Commitment to the Program Schedule: Peer Leaders should demonstrate a strong commitment to the program’s schedule, ensuring they attend all required sessions and fulfill their responsibilities.
