Our research dives into timely and relevant topics, such as <a href=\"https://www.wcirb.com/research-and-education/research-studies-and-reports/impacts-employee-tenure-workers%E2%80%99-compensation-claim-frequency-california\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">employee tenure</a>, <a href=\"https://www.wcirb.com/research-and-education/research-studies-and-reports/long-covid-california-workers%E2%80%99-compensation-system-2024-update\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">long COVID</a>, and <a href=\"https://www.wcirb.com/research-and-education/research-studies-and-reports/does-experience-rating-help-keep-workers-safe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the effectiveness of experience rating in promoting workplace safety</a>. We also push boundaries by exploring how climate change and AI may influence the workers&rsquo; compensation landscape in the years ahead.  <br><br>Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Sr. Data Analyst&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;Assist with the design and implementation of medical and classification analytics projects through:&nbsp;</p><ul><li>Reviewing published data, information and studies on various research topics and contributing to study design.</li><li>Independently developing well-documented and reproducible scripts in SQL, R or Python for pulling and wrangling data for the Analyst&rsquo;s own work and for the use of research staff in studies or to address ad-hoc requests.</li><li>Performing accuracy and reasonableness checks to assure quality of the working dataset is appropriate to each study. </li><li>Communicating clearly to research staff the rules employed to prepare the working datasets for study.</li><li>With limited directions, independently conducting exploratory analyses and statistical analyses (e.g., hypothesis testing, regression analysis, predictive modeling) to answer key research questions. </li><li>Applying judgement and discretion in the analyses and in the production of reports and presentations.</li><li>Exploring external data sources for specific research purposes and performing integration of diverse internal and external data sources, such as external code sets or policy data, to enhance analyses. </li><li>Preparing well-formatted tables and figures to present analysis results in reports and presentations.</li><li><span data-contrast=\"none\" lang=\"EN-US\" class=\"TextRun SCXW67371472 BCX8\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW67371472 BCX8\">Assuring analysis results are accurate following the Data Analytics team review protocol.</span></span></li><li><span data-contrast=\"none\" lang=\"EN-US\" class=\"TextRun SCXW67371472 BCX8\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW67371472 BCX8\">Providing technical and peer review of other analysts&rsquo; work.</span></span></li><li><span data-contrast=\"none\" lang=\"EN-US\" class=\"TextRun SCXW67371472 BCX8\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW67371472 BCX8\">Communicating results via written and oral presentations at internal and external meetings.</span></span></li><li><span data-contrast=\"none\" lang=\"EN-US\" class=\"TextRun SCXW67371472 BCX8\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW67371472 BCX8\">Lead the development of automating routine </span><span class=\"NormalTextRun ContextualSpellingAndGrammarErrorV2Themed SCXW67371472 BCX8\">analysis</span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW67371472 BCX8\"> data and reporting tasks, including quarterly medical benchmarking reports.</span></span></li><li><span data-contrast=\"none\" lang=\"EN-US\" class=\"TextRun SCXW67371472 BCX8\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW67371472 BCX8\">Provide training to data analysts and members of other actuarial and research teams on research protocols and team processes (if applicable).</span></span></li><li><span data-contrast=\"none\" lang=\"EN-US\" class=\"TextRun SCXW67371472 BCX8\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW67371472 BCX8\">Participate in discussions with external agencies, working groups and research groups on medical and classification research.</span></span></li></ul><p>Education, Experience, and Skill Qualifications&nbsp;</p><ul><li>Bachelor&rsquo;s Degree or above in a quantitative field such as statistics, economics, data science, computer science or other related field. </li><li>A minimum of four years of SQL, R or Python programming experience in a Data Analyst or equivalent role, or through coursework. </li><li>A minimum of two years of professional experience with rating organizations, data analytic companies, property/casualty insurers, health insurers, managed care companies, consulting, and/or hospital systems.</li><li>Strong proficiency in data wrangling, building functions and producing data visualization in R or Python.</li><li>Track record of completed analytical projects in R or Python.</li><li>Proficiency in statistical modeling (e.g., regression analysis), text analytics, geospatial data, or predictive modelling.</li><li>Strong proficiency in working with relational databases, large data sets and multiple data sources. </li><li>Ability to communicate both effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing.</li><li>Strong listening and interpersonal skills.</li><li>Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.</li></ul><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>About the WCIRB&nbsp;</strong></p><p>For over a century, the Workers&#39; Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau of California (WCIRB) has been California&#39;s trusted, objective provider of actuarially based information and research, advisory pure premium rates and educational services integral to a healthy workers&#39; compensation system.
