Description

The Cato Institute seeks an organized, motivated, and detail-oriented Manager of Print Services to join the Cato Press and Publications team. The candidate will be responsible for Cato Print Center operations (Monday–Friday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.), as well as managing reporting and other fulfillment requests. Prior experience with digital press programs and systems is required. This is a full-time and in-person position in Washington, DC, headquarters. The projected salary range for this role is $60,000–$75,000 per year. Compensation is based on the successful candidate’s educational background, experience, and skills. About Cato The Cato Institute is a public policy research organization—a think tank—dedicated to the principles of individual liberty, limited government, free markets, and peace. Its scholars and analysts conduct independent, nonpartisan research on a wide range of policy issues. Founded in 1977, Cato owes its name to Cato’s Letters, a series of essays published in 18th-century England that presented a vision of a society free from excessive government power. Those essays inspired the architects of the American Revolution. And the simple, timeless principles of that revolution—individual liberty, limited government, and free markets—are even more powerful in today’s world of global markets and unprecedented access to information than Jefferson or Madison could have imagined. Social and economic freedom is not just the best policy for a free people; it is the indispensable framework for the future. Cato Institute is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Responsibilities Print Management Prepare digital files for print by adjusting formats, layouts, and settings via Fiery Command WorkStation. Print, cut, fold, and finish all job requests, including reports, booklets, flyers, presentations, and business cards. Communicate in a clear and timely manner with all internal clients regarding materials, timelines, and expectations. Maintain all Print Center equipment and multifunction printers on various floors of Cato HQ, including performing basic maintenance, replacing toner, troubleshooting errors, and calling service as needed. Work with IT to ensure staff access to networked printers, review proper procedures for job identification and reporting, and maintain network security. Recommend new acquisitions, lease upgrades, and software that will increase productivity. Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders. This role works with colleagues in every policy and non-policy department at Cato. Inventory, Supply Management, and Reporting Maintain meticulous inventory of paper and toner for all printers. Purchase supplies as needed from vendors. Keep well-organized folders of digital assets and billing records. Submit invoices for payment in a timely manner. Establish print production priorities, schedules, and budgets. Maintain a calendar of major conferences and events happening at Cato when print services will be required. Monitor and maintain accurate inventory counts for all stationery suite items—including letterheads, envelopes, and note cards—across onsite and offsite locations. Anticipate reprint needs based on inventory levels and usage trends, placing orders in a timely manner to ensure continuous stock availability. Stay current on recent books and publication releases and stock availability (onsite and offsite). Work with Marketing and warehouse customer service representative to coordinate orders and ensure timely delivery via UPS Ground or freight. Maintain stock in all Z-racks and bookshelves located throughout the building. Identify trends and changes in volume through job ticketing reporting. Log all maintenance requests or other service calls for equipment. Other tasks as necessary.
