Under the supervision of the physician or other health professionals, the OB/GYN Nurse will demonstrate proficiency in administering the fundamental nursing processes within the OB/GYN department. options</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Duties and Responsibilities</strong></p><p>Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:</p><p>· Greets and registers patient upon arrival.</p><p>· Initiates admission assessment immediately upon arrival to the unit including pain assessment.</p><p>· Completes admission assessment of the patient immediately according to procedure.</p><p>· Initiates a written care plan upon admission.</p><p>· Monitors patient condition throughout shift according to unit care standards, including the reassessment of pain.</p><p>· Demonstrates ability to interpret changes in patient condition, fetal monitoring systems and abnormal lab values as evidenced by shift communication and documentation in the medical record.</p><p>· Incorporates in the nursing plan of care nursing interventions specific to the patient’s identified needs, measurable patient outcomes, discharge planning.</p><p>· Reviews and appropriately updates the nursing plan of care during assigned shift.</p><p>· Works with the patient and/or family in the development of the plan of care.</p><p>· Implements plan of care within established timeframe.</p><p>· Accurately orders appropriate tests via electronic health record (EHR).</p><p>· Requests consultation based on assessment data to assist in problem solving or facilitation of care as evidenced by random observation and documentation in the medical record.</p><p>· Administers medications including I.V. fluids according to policy and procedure.</p><p>· Administers and accounts for all controlled substances according to established policy and procedure.</p><p>· Accurately reviews physician’s orders and ensures implementation according to schedule.</p><p>· Documents nursing interventions and patient response to care at appropriate intervals during the shift.</p><p>· Provides basic patient education as outlined in the plan of care and documents teaching and outcomes in the medical record.</p><p>· Evaluates patient outcomes and modifies nursing interventions to meet changing patient needs including the reassessment of pain.</p><p>· Reports changes in the patient’s condition and/or adverse patient response to physician and other health care professionals.</p><p>· Performs fetal monitoring.</p><p>· Maintains acceptable standards of patient care.</p><p>· Identifies problems and guides personnel to their solution.</p><p>· Accurately and promptly implements physicians' orders.</p><p>· Maintains the standards of accurate and complete recording and reporting.</p><p>· Arranges to have needed supplies and equipment on hand.</p><p>· Participates in planning changes and improvements.</p><p>· Performs OB specific procedures and assessments such as Sterile Vaginal Exams and nitrazine testing
