Position Description At a Glance Legrand has an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Intern to join the Electrical Wiring Systems Team in West Hartford, CT. In this role, the Engineering Intern will be responsible for assisting the Product Development Team in simple product designs through CAD modeling and drawing documentation. Functions include working with Design Engineers and Engineering Managers on assignments that support testing of products, maintenance of products, customer related issues and general product engineering challenges. Main Job Duties: Modeling and documenting design elements for engineering solutions Creating testing environments for products, conducting the tests and documenting results Reviewing product standards and updating as required Working on manufacturing floor to solve design related issues Physical & Mental Demands: The physical and mental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by employees to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Mental Demands While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to: Use written and oral communication skills Read and interpret data, information and documents Analyze and solve non-routine and complex office administrative problems Use math and mathematical reasoning Observe and interpret situations Learn and apply new information or skills Perform highly detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks Work under intensive deadlines with frequent interruptions Interact with managers, staff, customers, the public and others encountered in the course of work Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to: Sit, walk and stand Talk or hear, both in person and by telephone Use hands repetitively operate standard office equipment Reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 25 pounds Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus Qualifications Education: College Junior or higher preferred; Pursuing a Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree. Skills/Knowledge/Abilities: Currently enrolled in- or recently completed BSME or BSEE. Creative approach to problem solving based on solid theoretical engineering skill. Willing to provide engineering support required to sustain current product offering as well as evaluate new product designs. This includes performing product testing in the laboratory. Proficiency in SolidWorks which includes the development of assemblies using part models of components is preferred. Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Must have an acceptable level of interpersonal skills to work effectively in a team environment. Must be able to contribute to several projects at a time. Prepare written and verbal reports. Conduct engineering studies/investigations.
