Job Title : Social Worker/School Adjustment Counselor
Supervisor : Lower Middle School Principal
Start Date: July 1, 2026 - June 30, 2027
Position Type: Full-Time, 12 Months
Hours : 8:45 AM - 4:15 PM
Position Overview Codman Academy Charter Public School seeks a dedicated School Social Worker / School Adjustment Counselor to support students' academic, social, and emotional growth while strengthening authentic partnerships with families. The Social Worker / School Adjustment Counselor plays a key role in implementing trauma-informed, healing-centered practices that promote student resilience and well-being.
This position involves individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, family engagement and workshops, leadership of the school attendance team, and collaboration with families, staff, and community partners to ensure that all students can thrive in a supportive school environment.
Key Responsibilities Student Support & Counseling Provide individual and group counseling to students, including those with IEP-related services. Conduct sociological assessments as part of the special education eligibility process. Implement and monitor Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions, including check-in/check-out systems and restorative practices. Support students through crisis intervention, including suicide risk and threat assessments, in collaboration with the school crisis team. Collaborate with teachers and staff to promote a positive school climate that supports social-emotional learning (SEL) and mental health awareness. Conduct home visits, when appropriate, to support student success and family engagement. Student Success Team & Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) Serve as a lead member of the Student Success Team (SST), working to design and implement targeted interventions. Utilize data-driven approaches to monitor student progress, ensuring that interventions lead to positive outcomes. Coordinate referrals to external agencies and community-based mental health providers, tracking student progress and follow-up services. Ensure all interventions are implemented in a way that does not pathologize students, instead fostering strength-based, culturally responsive support. Family Engagement Promote Codman Academy's vision for family and student engagement. Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for families to participate in school activities and decision-making processes. Actively communicate with families regarding attendance and respond empathetically to family concerns, collaborating with school staff to provide effective resolutions. Develop and lead family workshops on topics such as school policies, student development, curriculum understanding, and advocacy. Build and maintain authentic relationships with students, families, and the broader school community. Facilitate family engagement workshops and provide resources to support student well-being at home. Enrollment & Communication Support the enrollment process, ensuring families are informed and supported throughout. Facilitate consistent, timely, and accessible communication with families, offering support in their home languages. Collaborate with school staff to address family questions regarding rights, retention, discipline, and academic progression. Attendance & Student/Family Support Lead the school attendance team , coordinating tiered supports, interventions, and home visits for chronic absenteeism. Monitor student attendance records and facilitate outreach and interventions for at-risk students. Refer families to internal supports and external resources, including social services and community agencies. Work closely with school social workers, nurses, and other staff to coordinate services for students and families. Leadership, Compliance & Data Recruit, train, and retain parent leaders for the Family Council. Ensure compliance with parent involvement requirements, maintaining documentation and reporting as needed. Collect and report data on family engagement outcomes and school improvement efforts. Maintain accurate and confidential student records, including counseling notes, intervention tracking, and special education documentation. Submit required reports in a timely and professional manner to the principal and leadership team. Monitor and track the impact of mental health partnerships within the school. Professional Learning & Development Attend monthly professional development sessions on evidence-based mental health practices, trauma-informed care, and equity-focused SEL. Participate in district-wide and school-based professional learning communities to improve service delivery and compliance with best practices. Stay current with research and emerging trends in school social work, family engagement, and student wellness. Qualifications & Experience Required
Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited institution or related degree. Massachusetts licensure /School Adjustment Counselor (LCSW or LICSW) as a School Social Worker or Adjustment Counselor. Experience working with diverse student populations, including students with disabilities and Multilingual Learners (MLLs). Strong understanding of trauma-informed practices, SEL, and restorative justice in a school setting. Demonstrated ability to build authentic partnerships with families and engage them as full partners in their student's education. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education and Multilingual Learners to support student success and school-wide initiatives. Preferred
Experience with urban education settings and multicultural counseling approaches. Background in multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) and data-driven intervention models. Experience leading family workshops, parent councils, or other family engagement structures. Experience supporting attendance teams and addressing chronic absenteeism through tiered interventions. Bilingual proficiency in Spanish, Haitian Creole, Cape Verdean Creole, Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, or Somali is a plus. Strong case management skills, including experience collaborating with external service providers. Salary Range Compensation: Codman Academy Charter Public School follows a compensation scale based on years of direct experience. 1 year experience starts at $60,000, with 16 years direct experience starting at $110,444 annually.
