Position Purpose:
The Maintenance Technician I performs routine maintenance, repair, and preventive maintenance activities on water and wastewater treatment plant equipment, facilities, and systems to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operations.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
Perform preventive maintenance on pumps, motors, valves, blowers, and other mechanical equipment. Conduct routine inspections of plant equipment and facilities to identify maintenance needs. Repair and replace defective parts, components, and equipment. Maintain and repair electrical systems, including motors, control panels, and lighting. Perform basic plumbing repairs and installations. Lubricate equipment and machinery according to maintenance schedules. Assist with emergency repairs and respond to after-hours callouts as needed. Maintain accurate maintenance logs and work order documentation. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and plant standard operating procedures. Perform grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming, and general housekeeping. Assist senior maintenance staff with complex repairs and projects. Operate plant equipment as needed during maintenance activities. Work Environment:
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions. Ability to work around wastewater, chemicals, and odors. Work performed primarily at wastewater treatment plant facility. Exposure to wastewater, chemicals, noise, and varying weather conditions. May require rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and on-call duty. Personal protective equipment (PPE) required.
Education/Experience/Background:
High School Diploma/GED is required. 1-2 years of maintenance experience in industrial, municipal, or wastewater treatment setting preferred. Entry-level candidates with relevant training will be considered. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics. Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Good communication skills, both written and verbal. Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) preferred. Required Certification/Licenses/Training:
Technical/vocational training in industrial maintenance preferred. Valid driver's license required. Wastewater treatment plant operator certification (or ability to obtain within specified timeframe) may be required. OSHA safety certifications preferred. Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly. Ability to work in confined spaces. Ability to climb ladders and work at heights. Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods.
Pay Range: $27.00 to $32.00 per hour.
