A Tax Supervisor or Manager in BPM’s Estate & Trust practice plays a key role in delivering high‑quality, compliance‑driven tax services for fiduciary clients by overseeing the preparation and review of complex estate, trust, and gift tax returns. This role emphasizes technical accuracy, adherence to federal and state regulations, and consistent application of firm and professional standards while managing deadlines and mitigating risk. The Tax Supervisor/Manager provides hands‑on guidance to staff, supports mentoring and training efforts, and serves as a knowledgeable point of contact for compliance‑related client matters, ensuring returns are complete, defensible, and aligned with evolving tax laws while maintaining a strong focus on quality control and fiduciary responsibility. (This position is compliance focused) Note: Open to candidates nationwide. Those within 45 minutes of a BPM office will be expected to follow a hybrid schedule. Key Responsibilities: Prepare and review federal and state fiduciary income tax returns (Form 1041), estate tax returns (Form 706), and gift tax returns (Form 709). Ensure timely and accurate filing of tax returns and estimated payments. Maintain compliance calendars and oversee tax deadlines for trust clients. Respond to IRS and state tax notices and coordinate with legal advisors as needed. Supervise and mentor junior staff, providing technical guidance and review support. Collaborate with trust officers, attorneys, and wealth advisors to gather documentation and clarify tax positions. Stay current on tax laws and regulations affecting trusts and estates. Support BPM’s sustainability and digital-first initiatives through paperless workflows and remote collaboration. Mentor junior staff and contribute to process improvements. Qualifications: CPA license 5+ years of experience in public accounting or law firm with a focus on trust and estate tax compliance. Strong understanding of fiduciary accounting, trust administration, and estate planning concepts. Proficiency in tax software (e.g., CCH Axcess, ProSystem fx, SurePrep) and Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills. Experience managing multiple engagements and mentoring staff. Preferred: Experience with high-net-worth clients and complex estate structures including revocable, irrevocable, testamentary, and grantor trusts.
