Job Summary:
The Division Manager (DM) of the Division of HIV, Infectious Diseases and Global Medicine is responsible for managing the administrative services of one of the largest, most complex divisions in the Department of Medicine at Zuckerberg San Francisco General (ZSFG). In partnership with division physician leadership, the incumbent is responsible for developing short and long range needs assessments to appropriately support the division’s overall goals and missions. The incumbent takes initiative to develop operations policy and works closely with the Chief to facilitate effective decision-making processes. The incumbent plans, organizes and directs all activities to ensure operational effectiveness of the division including: financial management, academic faculty and staff personnel administration, clinical operations, research administration, IT services, space and facilities management. The incumbent has responsibility for the administration and financial relationships of the Division with Department of Medicine, other Departments and Divisions at UCSF including, but not limited to the Global Health Sciences at UCSF, the Center for AIDS Research (CFAR), the AIDS Research Institute (ARI), the UCSF Foundation, the San Francisco General Hospital Foundation, and Zuckerberg San Francisco General.
Reporting to the Division Chief and ZSFG DOM Director of Administration, the Division Manager establishes short- and long-range needs assessments, engages in the execution of operational objectives and work plans, and delegates assignments to subordinate managers. The incumbent also represents the Division Chief and is delegated substantive decision-making authority.
Department Overview
The Division of HIV, Infectious Diseases and Global Medicine at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) is the largest division within the Department of Medicine at ZSFG and is an internationally recognized global leader in clinical care, research and education. With its home-base located at Zuckerberg San Francisco General and Trauma Center (ZSFG), the Division has been ranked as the top facility in the country for AIDS care and research. The Division’s work and featured frequently in the media and it is often visited by international, national, state, and local dignitaries and delegations. The Division consists of approximately 34 faculty members and 202 academic, trainees, and staff employees. It is the largest Division of the Department of Medicine at Zuckerberg San Francisco General, with a total annual expenditure budget of approximately $66 million. The Division has a large research faculty and supports a very large NIH portfolio. The DM works with 27 investigators.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree in business, health care or related area and/or equivalent experience, encompassing financial management, strategic planning and organizational development, clinical practice management, and human resource management
Minimum five years of progressively responsible academic and financial management experience
Thorough knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques; human resources and risk management planning; accounting and payroll
Thorough knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques; human resources and risk management planning; accounting and payroll. Experience hiring and managing high performing employees
Demonstrated willingness to adopt and effectively leverage AI technologies to improve efficiency, enhance workflows, and remain current with emerging tools and best practices
Thorough knowledge of common organization-specific and other computer application programs
Demonstrated ability to actively contribute and elevate a department culture of professionalism, respect, and integrity
Demonstrated ability to work in a fluid and ambiguous work environment encompassing a variety of needs and constantly evolving priorities

Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience and/or advanced proficiency in using AI technologies, preferably within an academic medical center or healthcare environment
Familiarity of knowledge of governmental and institutional policies to carry out the responsibilities of this position. This includes but is not limited to federal, state and private contracting policies, HIPAA policies, Joint Commission, CMS, Medicare reimbursement policies, GAAP standards, UCSF Purchasing guidelines, A-21 Cost Accounting standards, staff personnel policies and labor relations/ bargaining unit contracts and agreements
Familiarity with policies and programmatic guidelines for ACGME and non-ACGME training programs and associated funding, institutional guidelines on salary setting for trainees, stipend payments, and the appointment process for all trainees
