    "ExternalDescriptionStr": "<div>\n <strong>ABOUT OUR DISTRICT</strong>\n</div>\n<div>\n <p>The Syracuse City School District is undergoing a new phase of innovation and transformation with the goal of ensuring that all students graduate high school with the skills needed to be ready for college and career. For Syracuse, all means all - including students who fall behind academically or have been considered \"hard to support\" for a host of reasons. The School Board and Syracuse community have charged the Superintendent with improving student achievement, and he is seeking a dedicated and diverse team of school leaders and teachers to partner with him in moving the district toward its goals. The Syracuse City School District represents 34 schools and 4 alternative education programs, serving 19,000+ students Pre-K-12 of whom 77% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, 18% are served by the Office of Special Education and 78% are students of color.</p>\n</div>\n<div>\n &nbsp;\n</div>\n<div>\n <strong>WHO WE WANT</strong>\n</div>\n<div>\n Successful SCSD educators are passionately committed to urban education and all in for Syracuse students. They:\n</div>\n<div>\n <ul>\n  <li>Believe strongly that all students can learn at high levels;</li>\n  <li>Demonstrate commitment to serving urban students, schools or communities, and to closing the achievement gap;</li>\n  <li>Demonstrate willingness to put the interests of students above all others;</li>\n  <li>Actively contribute to a culture of high expectations in their school and district;</li>\n  <li>Adapt seamlessly to the complexities of the urban school environment; and</li>\n  <li>Follow current trends in education policy and research, including Common Core standards, comprehensive assessment systems and data-driven instruction.</li>\n </ul>\n</div>\n<div>\n &nbsp;\n</div>\n<div>\n <strong>SPECIFIC DUTIES</strong>\n</div>\n<div>\n Teachers of the Visually Impaired (TVI) in the Syracuse City School District are itinerant service providers. Each of our TVIs travel between building to provide services, consult with classroom teachers and administrators as well as ensure that each visually impaired student on the caseload has the appropriate materials and equipment to succeed in their classroom. Duties of the selected candidate will include:\n</div>\n<div>\n <ul>\n  <li>Conduct functional vision assessments of children</li>\n  <li>Prepare and present formal reports to the Committee on Special Education in regard to the vision needs of individual students</li>\n  <li>Review all medical reports which correspond with the student’s visual status</li>\n  <li>Consult with general and special educators regarding the selection of specific materials and program modifications required by the student</li>\n  <li>Assess the student’s need for specialized materials and equipment</li>\n  <li>Arrange for the selection and purchase (if necessary) of adaptive equipment required by the student</li>\n  <li>Provide direct instruction in Braille as needed</li>\n  <li>Provide regular therapy as designated by the IEP to visually impaired students</li>\n  <li>Provide ongoing consultation to teachers and teaching assistants who work with low vision and blind students</li>\n  <li>Develop comprehensive IEPs for low vision and blind students</li>\n  <li>Participate in parent conferences and communicate with parents on a regular basis</li>\n  <li>Review and update IEPs to meet the needs of visually impaired students</li>\n </ul>\n</div>\n<div>\n &nbsp;\n</div>\n<p><strong>QUALIFICATIONS:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Proven experience accelerating measurable student learning in urban schools (preferred)</li>\n <li>Training and or experience with Culturally Relevant Education (preferred)</li>\n <li>Minimum of two years’ successful classroom teaching experience (preferred)</li>\n <li>Prior demonstration of exemplary attendance is expected of any candidate for hire.</li>\n <li>All candidates must possess New York State teacher certification in their subject area, or qualify to obtain it by the first date of employment. This requires at least a Bachelor’s degree. Licensed teachers from other states may qualify for&nbsp;<a href=\"http://www.highered.nysed.gov/tcert/certificate/teachrecother.html\" target=\"_blank\">reciprocity</a>.</li>\n <li>Please note that New York State requires a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.5 for certification, and one hired, this proof will be kept on file in the Office of Human Resources.&nbsp;</li>\n <li>Once offered, you will be required to declare that all previous obligations with an employing school district have been met and you are not seeking this position with the intent of resigning from a previous commitment in which you have not served.&nbsp;</li>\n <li>The successful candidate will be required to pass a fingerprint-based background check, at the cost of $101.75 to the candidate.</li>\n <li><i><strong>City Residents are encouraged to apply!</strong></i></li>\n</ul>\n<p>&nbsp;</p>\n<p><strong>SALARY/SALARY RANGE:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>The current starting salary for SCSD Teachers is $53,000. With proof of outside related experience and college transcripts, the salary will be increased pursuant to the Unit 1 contractual agreement.</li>\n <li>Teachers who are assigned to work at schools with extended learning time will receive an additional stipend.</li>\n <li>Teachers will have opportunities to teach in our Summer School Programs, receiving an hourly rate of $42.69.</li>\n</ul>",
