Engineering Manager, Platform Engineering

Who We Need Rillet's platform is the foundation every engineer builds on - and as our Engineering Manager, Platform, you'll own it. Developer experience, observability, operational efficiency, core infrastructure - the systems that determine how fast and how well we move as a company. You're stepping into a broad surface area spanning platform and integrations, with real ownership to set direction, grow the team, and make the architectural calls that let a fast-moving org scale without friction. We're looking for a platform-minded engineer-leader who cares as much about developer productivity as uptime - someone who sees internal tooling and observability as features to be crafted, not boxes to be checked. We're looking for teammates who value in-person collaboration and are within commutable distance of our NYC office (or willing to relocate). Team members work in-office Tuesdays and Thursdays, plus one additional flexible day. What You'll Do Own the architecture, infrastructure, and developer tooling that every engineer at Rillet depends on - from CI/CD and deployment practices to the observability and operational efficiency that keeps us shipping fast and safely at scale. Build and champion the internal tooling and developer experience that makes engineers at Rillet faster than engineers anywhere else. Set technical direction for how we build reliability, security, and compliance into our systems from the ground up - including the design and scalability of our external API. Hire and develop high-caliber platform engineers across a growing surface area, establishing the culture and craft standards that define great platform work at Rillet. Partner with engineering leadership to define roadmap priorities and translate ambiguous problems into clear technical plans. Who We're Looking For 4+ years managing platform, infrastructure, or developer tooling teams at high-growth tech companies, with 6+ years in engineering overall Background as a backend engineer who moved into platform work - you understand what it means to build for other engineers, not just alongside them Deep experience with observability tooling, CI/CD, and cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) Track record of improving developer experience in measurable, concrete ways Comfortable driving technical direction across teams without relying on direct authority Startup experience at a similar stage, or IC experience at a smaller company before managing at a larger one - you know how to operate when the playbook isn't written yet Drawn to hard, ambiguous problems and energized by building in environments where you're figuring things out as you go Bonus Points Experience owning and scaling public-facing APIs Familiarity with enterprise readiness (SOC 2, SSO/SAML, audit logging, or similar) Background in fintech, ERP, or accounting software Kotlin, Java, or TypeScript experience Life at Rillet: Competitive Pay & Benefits: Backed by world-class investors, we offer strong salaries plus equity so you share in our success.
