TUJ offers undergraduate programs to a broad mix of over 3,300 Japanese and non-Japanese degree-seeking students who will earn their degrees from Temple University through the Japan campus. Every semester, additional students from Temple’s main campus and other universities converge on our campus for a short-term study abroad experience.
In one of the most dynamic cities in the world, we offer thirteen full undergraduate majors ranging from Art to International Business to Psychological Studies. Our faculty and staff are international, with nearly 100 full-time faculty joined by experienced administrators and many part-time adjunct faculty from the professions, business, and the arts. TUJ holds classes in the fall and spring semesters (15 weeks) and over a well-enrolled 10-week summer semester.
The Japanese Language major program at Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ), offers students a unique and immersive undergraduate experience centered around building proficiency in the Japanese language. This four-year program is specifically crafted in a Japanese as a Second Language (JSL) setting, emphasizing both linguistic mastery and a comprehensive understanding of Japanese culture, society, and literature. It prepares students for a range of professional opportunities where proficiency in the Japanese language and a deep understanding of its culture are valuable assets. The Japanese Language major of the Undergraduate Program at Temple University, Japan Campus seeks adjunct instructors of Japanese language for the Fall 2026 . This is one or more part-time, position(s) for one or two course(s) taught in Fall 2026, with the possibility of a contract renewal.
Overview of Position
Adjunct Instructors for the following courses:
JPNS 1001 Japanese Elements I, 4 Credit Hours.
JPNS 1002 Japanese Elements II, 4 Credit Hours.
JPNS 2701 Japanese Intermediate I, 4 Credit Hours.
JPNS 2702 Japanese Intermediate II, 4 Credit Hours.
Applicants will teach one to two sections of beginning and / or intermediate Japanese (first- and second-year Japanese language) based on the Genki textbook. Courses will be delivered in-person. Each course meets three days per week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) at regularly scheduled class periods. Applicants will have the opportunity to work with students with various majors.
These positions are part-time for the semester, with the possibility to continue teaching in the future. Successful applicants will teach up to two courses per semester.
Qualifications & Experience
Degree Requirements
MA, ABD, or PhD in Japanese language, Japanese linguistics, second language studies, language education instruction or equivalent. A master's degree is required (all degrees must be conferred by the time of hire).
Minimum Requirements
MA or higher degree in Japanese language, linguistics, language acquisition, or related field
Native or near-native proficiency in both Japanese and English
Basic instructional technology skills, including running Zoom classes and navigating through course management systems such as Canvas
Eligibility to work in Japan
Experience teaching Japanese language
