Description Position Objective: The RWC Adventure Lead works with the RWC Program Coordinator to develop, implement, and oversee operation of RWC recreation facilities and assist with cook-out program as well as teambuilding workshops to provide a welcoming environment and with unparalleled customer service in a manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values. General Qualifications: The Redwood Camp (“RWC”) Adventure Lead is a Ministerial position. Ministerial staff render their work, stewardship, relationships and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) mission, vision and beliefs. They are responsible for defining, cultivating and leading MHA’s Christian community, conference programs, and retreats. Key Job Accountabilities: Set up and take down of daily recreation and adventure activities. Develop and oversee operation of RWC recreation facilities, as well as adventure facilities. Assist in cook-out program as well as teambuilding workshops. Lead recreation activities, guiding training and supervision to provide counselors with the tools to create activities appropriate for primary and junior youth. Assist in the leading of adventure activities, guiding training and supervision to provide counselors with the tools to create activities appropriate for primary and junior youth. Oversee recreation facilities maintenance and upkeep, documenting and reporting on equipment needs. Assist in the adventure facility maintenance as well. Provide leadership and supervision to Pro-Ro (rotational counselors on program that week). Assist RWC Program Coordinator with implementing set-up and running games. Promote the adventure department as well as assisting in training and supervision of counselors in ropes course leadership, safety, proper use of equipment, and work toward proficiency in skills. Perform any other duties as assigned by Supervisor. Supervisory Responsibilities: Adventure Assistants. Counselors on rotation helping run either adventure or recreation elements. Qualifications Education/Certifications/Licenses: High school graduate; 1 year of college experience preferred. Level 2 Challenge Course certification preferred. Must be CPR/First Aid certified (before arriving at camp). Must possess a valid current driver’s license and have a clean driving record. Work Experience: Previous experience working with children preferred. Prior experience in leadership roles in camp settings preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong working knowledge of ropes/challenge course equipment, maintenance, safety, operation and training. Love for children of all ages is essential. Well-versed in how to create and foster “teachable moments” through activity and able to train counseling staff to do so as well. Ability to maintain strong, team-oriented work ethic in conjunction with general program staff. Emotionally mature and willing to accept responsibility. Must be able to lead and teach with patience and clear instruction. Motivated and able to lead with empathy and discipline. Must be prepared to problem solve on the job. Physical Demands: The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions Requires walking, sitting, and standing for 6-8 hrs. a day, seeing, hearing and talking. Requires lifting and transporting 25-50 lbs. of gear and equipment up and down stairs Requires employee to ascend and/or descend ladders, stairs, cables, and trees using hands and feet. Additional Requirements: Must be at least 18 years of age due to the requirement for onsite community living. Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance. Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in MHA’s Mission, Vision, Values and Commitment statements. Satisfactory completion of background investigation as well as ability to provide  proof of eligibility to work in the United States .
