Description

WVU Jackson's Mill is currently accepting applications for a Temporary Adventure Guide. The WVU Jackson’s Mill Adventure Guides is a seasonal temporary position for the summer camping season. The main term of employment will go from mid-May to mid-August. During this time, the Adventure Guides will be assisting the Program Coordinator of Outdoor Education and Recreation with outdoor programing for the variety of camps and groups that use WVU Jackson’s Mill for their programs. They will also assist other programmatic and non-programmatic areas of WVU Jackson’s Mill on an as needed basis. The Adventure Guides will also serve as overnight staff for some of these groups, providing supervision for the campers in their cabins. As such, all Adventure guides will have to go through the Children on Campus vetting process, including Title IX training, Child Protection training, and background check. All adventure guides will go through a mandatory, in-person training, which will take place in mid-May. This training will include all the skills needed to perform this job, though prior experience as an outdoor guide, camp counselor, or similar position is preferred. Adventure Guides will be expected to be on campus and ready to work at a designated time and day each week. This position will require working over the weekend some weeks with minimal breaks between some camps. These dates and times will be given in advance but are subject to change depending on the needs of the camps each week. There are four openings for this position. What You'll Do Primary Responsibilities: Assist Program Coordinator of Outdoor Education and Recreation with outdoor programming. This includes but is not limited to: Canoeing and Kayaking River Tubing Tango Tower operations Fire Safety and Building Axe and Knife Throwing Biking Outdoor Games Low ropes Facilitation Assist with maintaining outdoor programming equipment. Supervision of campers and other groups during the day during other camp activities. Overnight supervision of campers in their cabins when needed. Enforcing rules of the camps and WVU Jackson’s Mill. Secondary Responsibilities: Transporting campers in a 15-passenger van when needed. Assisting with other programming (e.g.: history, STEAM, other camp activities). Assisting with non-programmatic tasks to help WVU Jackson’s Mill operations (e.g.: dining hall cleaning and dishes, organizing storage spaces). Lifeguarding during pool hours (dependent on certification). Other duties as assigned.
