Description

This is a year-round Student Internship position in the Office of the Chief Sustainability & Resilience Officer (SRI), providing training, mentoring, and hands-on experience while supporting Metropolitan’s sustainability and resilience initiatives. The internship offers practical experience and broad exposure to Metropolitan’s organizational structure while contributing to meaningful work that advances Metropolitan’s Climate Action Plan (CAP). Specifically, this position will support Metropolitan’s Climate Action Plan (CAP) 5-Year Update and implementation efforts related to the Zero Waste and Sustainable Procurement initiatives. Under guidance, the intern will assist with research, data collection, document review, and coordination activities to support sustainability planning, implementation tracking, reporting, and continuous improvement efforts. What You'll Do Learn and assist with activities supporting Metropolitan’s Climate Action Plan (CAP) 5-Year Update, including research, information gathering, and documentation support. Assist in collecting, compiling, organizing, and analyzing information related to sustainability initiatives, including Zero Waste and Sustainable Procurement efforts. Support research and review of sustainability-related policies, guidance, best practices, legislation, regulations, and program information. Assist in tracking implementation activities, maintaining records, verifying data, and preparing summaries, reports, presentations, and other supporting materials. Participate on project teams and support coordination efforts across departments and with internal stakeholders as needed. Assist in identifying opportunities to improve processes, organization, or reporting methods to support sustainability initiatives. Provide general administrative and office support activities related to assigned projects and initiatives. Perform other related Student Intern duties as assigned. Schedule: (PART TIME) Monday through Friday with every other Friday off. WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time (during summer break) and/or Part-time (up to 18 hours per week) Estimated assignment length ranges from three to twelve months; dates are flexible. Assignment length will be determined based on the student’s class schedule, availability, and employer needs Hybrid : Metropolitan’s current practice in this position is a hybrid work schedule. This typically includes two days a week in person and the other days remote. This is subject to change dependent on organizational needs. In addition, a telework policy is scheduled for negotiations and once completed and implemented, will provide final direction on the hybrid schedule. Relevant Experience. Ideal Areas of Study: Students pursuing degrees in environmental studies, sustainability, climate science, environmental policy, public administration, urban planning, business administration, supply chain management, economics, engineering, environmental science, or closely related fields are encouraged to apply. CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS License(s) : Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive during your employment.
