Beyond technical oversight, this role emphasizes providing subject matter expertise, mentorship, guiding IT stakeholders in security best practices to build a culture of cybersecurity. Success depends on strong communication and relationship building, as the Director must translate technical risks for non-technical stakeholders and Principal Investigators. As the primary strategic liaison between the School and NYU IT, the Director ensures a seamless partnership that balances risk management in support of the University’s academic, administrative, and research missions.\n<h2>Qualifications</h2>\n<b>Required Education:</b>Bachelor's Degree In Information Security, Computer Science, or a related field.\n<b>Preferred Education:</b>Master's Degree\n<b>Required Experience:</b>5+ years of progressive experience in Information Technology, with a focus on strategy, operations, security, and/or technical management or an equivalent combination of education and experience.\n<b>Preferred Experience:</b>7+ years experience operating within a centralized IT environment or a large, complex organization (e.g., higher education or government), serving as a liaison between a local unit and a central service provider. 3 years in a dedicated security leadership role.\n<b>Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:</b>Experience in cybersecurity or a related field, with strong knowledge of security technologies, practices, and standards. Working knowledge in Identity and Access Management, Cloud Security, Endpoint Security, Data Protection, Network Security, or Application Security. Familiarity with cybersecurity standards like NIST 800-181, NIST 800-53, and ISO 27001. Demonstrates proficiency in security technologies, standards, and risk management strategies. The candidate should demonstrate leadership, communication, and team-building skills and have a track record of developing others through coaching, mentoring, and training. The ability to communicate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences, solve complex problems, and manage conflicts effectively is essential.\n<b>Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:</b>Possess a cybersecurity or related certification such as CISSP, CISM, or CISA. Has a strong background in systems management, secure configurations and practices. Has a demonstrated background with Identity and Access Management, Cloud Security, Endpoint Security, Data Protection, Network Security, or Application Security techniques and practices. Has a demonstrated background in cybersecurity risk identification and mitigation. Effective communication and relationship-building skills with multiple constituencies. Ability to effectively integrate and manage complex projects. Capacity for flexible thinking with excellent analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills. Ability to negotiate conflict and maintain constructive working relationships with people at all levels of an organization, both inside and outside the University.\n<h2>Additional Information</h2>In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $155,000.00 to USD $195,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
