Recreation Operations Assistant I
Posting Expires: June 1, 2026
Salary Range: $21.33 hour
General Description and Classification Standards:
Responsible for the smooth functioning of recreation centers, undertaking a diverse range of administrative tasks and program management responsibilities. This entails collaborating with colleagues to organize activities for programming, promoting community involvement, and ensuring the center's cleanliness and presentation. Beyond administrative duties, this role may involve overseeing certain programs and providing recreational services for seniors, adults, and children. From enforcing safety regulations to facilitating transportation and meal services for after-school programming, the Recreation Operations Assistant demonstrates active engagement with patrons, addressing inquiries, and ensuring a positive experience for all visitors.
Supervision Received:
Works under minimal supervision; can set own work sequence and pace within process/department limitations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.
Work cooperatively with Recreation Center administration and staff. Abide by and enforce all State of Georgia and City of Atlanta vehicle operation and safety guidelines. Abide by and enforce all meal program rules, regulations and guidelines. Perform all duties and responsibilities associated with the implementation and reporting related to the meal program. Provide support to recreation center staff, program organizers, volunteers, and/or other participants. Assist with equipment set-up and break-down for programs/events as needed. Enforce rules and regulations of recreation center activities to ensure health and safety of patrons. Ensure cleanliness and upkeep of the recreation center and tennis courts through regular cleaning duties. Communicate effectively with staff and patrons, providing excellent customer service and fostering a welcoming environment. Contribute to program development and execution, including organizing arts and crafts, games, and exercise programs. May perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledgeable of all applicable laws, ordinances, policies, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of working with youth. General knowledge of sports, games, and other recreational activities.
Ability to provide youth leadership in group activities and interact with children. Ability to use independent judgment and discretion in handling emergency situations. Able to effectively interact with management, employees, members of the general public and all other groups involved in the City’s recreation activities.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience –
High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) required.
One year of related work experience.
Licensures and Certifications –
Valid Georgia driver’s license required.
Preferred Qualifications –
Same as minimum.
Work Environment:
Required physical, lifting, and sensory capabilities are requirements to perform the job successfully. Typical environmental conditions associated with job.

Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
