Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, on the deck, and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>SHIFT AND SCHEDULE:</strong></p><p>4:45AM - 10:00AM and/or</p><p>6:00AM - 12:00PM and/or</p><p>10:00AM - 4:00PM and/or</p><p>4:45AM - 9:00Am and 10:00AM - 1:00PM (double shift)</p><p><em>*Additional time slots available</em></p><p><br></p><p><em><strong>**5am-7am: $19-$21</strong></em></p><p><br></p><p><strong>LOCATION:</strong></p><p>Somerset Hills YMCA</p><p><br></p><p><strong>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:</strong></p><ol><li>Maintains active surveillance of the pool area.</li><li>Addresses member concerns, directs members to program areas or lane needs. Supports the overall Aquatic team.</li><li>Assists with swim lessons and deck supervision as needed by department operations.</li><li>Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Completes related reports as required.</li><li>Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code.</li><li>Walks the perimeter of the pool scanning the bottom before taking over the lifeguard stand.</li><li>Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.</li><li>Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.</li><li>Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action.</li><li>Attends all staff meetings and in-service training.</li><li>Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants and other staff.</li><li>Dresses in Uniform – Required Items: Lifeguard Shirt, bathing suit, whistle, and PPE hip bag.</li><li>Emotional resiliency and cognitive abilities to carry out job responsibilities, ability to establish and maintain appropriate professional relationships, interpersonal skills to interact effectively with individuals and groups respecting social and cultural diversity and to maintain appropriate boundaries.</li><li>Performs other duties as assigned.</li></ol><p><br></p>",
