Description

This is a department funded position. Students that meet this position's requirements are encouraged to apply. Manager: Colleen Lawrence Location: On Campus Hours: around 5 hours plus Position Duration: Academic Year and/or Summer Term Position Overview We are looking for a reliable, energetic Swim Lessons Assistant to aid the Instructors and help manage children in the pool setting. We need Assistants who are comfortable and experienced with working with children. Major Areas of Responsibility Helping the Instructor with whatever they may need (calming down children, fetching supplies, etc). Helping with pool set-up and take-down. Working Conditions A hot and humid pool setting. Must be comfortable getting wet. Can involve lots of physical exertion, such as treading and holding up children. Required Qualifications No certification necessary, but must be adaptable and ready to learn. Physical Requirements Must be able to lift and hold 50+ pounds (a child's weight). If assisting older classes - must be able to swim or tread in the deep end of the pool. Must be able and willing to demonstrate skills to the children. Must be able and willing to deal with emotional children in a calm and effective manner. Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards. Other Information All Augustana University employees must know and follow job safety procedures, attend any required health and safety training, proactively promote safety at work and promptly report actual and potential accidents and injuries. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions.
