Under the direction of the Primary Health Care Manager, the Nurse Practitioner will provide primary health care services to the community. The Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for clients in the community both independently and collaboratively with a physician, depending upon the complexity of client needs. This includes: health promotion and protection; first line treatment and emergency services; provision of supportive counselling and instruction in management of medical conditions; disease and injury prevention; initiating and conducting community needs assessments and participating in evaluative projects; and collaboration with and referral to other health care professionals. This is a community-based position therefore the incumbent is required to work at a high level of independent clinical practice. Human Resources Exemption: No Experience One year experience in community needs assessment/development/health promotion 3 years experience as an RN in primary care, public health or acute care Education Graduate from an approved School of Nursing Licenses Registered Nurse (RN) Valid Class 5 driver's license Other Education and Training Registered/eligible for registration with CRNS as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) Ability to maintain current registration as a Nurse Practitioner with CRNS Basic Cardiac Life Support Certificate (BCLS) Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge in the principles of Population Health Promotion Ability to provide holistic care to individuals, families & the community Demonstrates knowledge of community services, programs, and resources Knowledge in individual assessment and counselling skills Demonstrates ability to assess the community for primary care needs. Demonstrates ability to show initiative and self-direction Demonstrates ability in verbal and non-verbal communication techniques Demonstrates ability to accept and implement change Knowledge in population and public health concepts Demonstrates capacity to plan, implement and evaluate multiple assessments Demonstrated knowledge of teaching abilities & group facilitation skills Ability to apply methods and principles of nursing process Demonstrates empathy, trust and respect in the provision of care Demonstrate responsible decision-making supported by strong critical thinking Demonstrates leadership, confidence and autonomy in the RN (NP) role Knowledge of common medical conditions and treatments.
