    "ExternalDescriptionStr": "<p style=\"margin-left: 0in;\"><strong>Job Summary</strong></p><p>The Behavioral Support Professional I observes, intervenes, and engages youth who need assistance in order to be maintained safely in their classroom environment. This position is a contributing member of the treatment team who develops, implements and evaluates treatment goals and objectives derived from treatment and education plans to prepare students to successfully re-enter the classroom setting.</p><p style=\"margin-left: 0in;\"><strong>Essential Job functions</strong></p><ul><li>Partner with youth and families to deliver relationship-based, competence centered, and trauma-informed solutions that help people reach their full potential.</li><li>Recognize emerging crisis situations and utilize effective intervention techniques to prevent occurrence, escalation, and reoccurrence of crises, for individual and groups of students.</li><li>Make recommendations to the clinical staff regarding students’ behaviors.</li><li>Provide effective care and supervision through a trauma-informed and culturally competent approach with each individual served.</li><li>Identify youth behavioral issues and situations that require notification and communicate/escalate those situations to others on the team.&nbsp;</li><li>Complete written documentation, reports, and incident notifications on behavioral issues and situations in alignment with agency protocols and procedures.</li><li>Ensure the safety of all youth in the program follows emergency protocols.&nbsp;</li><li>Update the youth safety plan.</li><li>Act as a mandated reporter for all instances of child abuse and neglect.</li><li>While this job description covers many aspects of the role, employees may be required to perform other duties as assigned.</li></ul><p style=\"margin-left: 0in;\"><strong>Education &amp; Experience</strong></p><ul><li>High school diploma or GED required.</li><li>Minimum 1 year of experience working in a classroom or related health care setting required.</li></ul><p style=\"margin-left: 0in;\"><strong>SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS</strong></p><ul><li>Unrestricted, valid NYS driver’s license for minimum of 1 year with a clean driving record and minimum insurance coverage that meets agency standards.&nbsp;</li><li>CPR and First Aid training within 60 days of hire.</li></ul><p style=\"margin-left: 0in;\"><strong>Knowledge, Skills &amp; Abilities</strong></p><p>In addition to demonstrating the <i>Hillside Professional Competencies</i> of Communicates Effectively, Personal Excellence, Cultural Competence, Builds and Leverages Relationships, and Optimizes Decision Making, the following occupational competencies must be demonstrated:</p><ul><li>Uphold the highest standards for ethical and professional conduct at all times</li><li>Knowledge of all federal, state, and local statutes, regulatory agency standards and Hillside policies&nbsp;</li><li>Ability to apply appropriate emergency and crisis de-escalation /intervention techniques as needed (e.g. TCI/Heart saver)</li><li>Ability to utilize conflict resolution skills and defuse crisis situations</li></ul><p style=\"margin-left: 0in;\"><strong>Physical Demands &amp; Work Environment</strong></p><p>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.</p><ul><li>Must be able to work a variable scheduling including evenings and weekends</li><li>The following daily physical demands are required:<ul><li>Sitting (up to 6 hours)</li><li>Occasional standing (up to 2 hour)</li><li>Occasional walking (up to 2.5 hours)</li><li>Driving (several times a week up to 6 hours)</li><li>Continuous balancing (up to 8 hours)</li><li>Occasional balancing, bending, stooping, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching forward or down, reaching overhead, running, and twisting (up to 2.5 hours)</li><li>Weekly lifting up to 10-15 lbs. on a daily basis</li><li>Manual dexterity is required, including the frequent ability to grasp in both hands and continuous use of fine manipulation skills in both hands (approximately 1-2.5 hrs.)</li><li>Occasional exposure to dust, fumes, gases, chemicals, or smoke is apparent&nbsp;&nbsp;</li><li>Ability to change positions as needed</li></ul></li></ul><p style=\"margin-left: 0in;\"><strong>SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS</strong></p><p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">While Hillside is a restraint free environment, there may be times in a “life or limb” situation, that staff may be required to physically restrain clients weighing between 50 lbs. and 300 lbs. and guide them safely to the floor. In some circumstances, restraints can last up to 15 minutes and may require repetition as necessary.&nbsp;</span></span></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>18.50 Minimum pay rate, $24.00 Maximum pay rate, based on experience. This pay rate may include a Regional and/or Department premium.</p>",
