The ideal candidate will have a strong background in underground utility installation, excavation, and jobsite safety. This position requires both field leadership and hands-on equipment operation, along with the ability to read and interpret underground electrical drawings. </p><p>  </p><p><strong>Key Responsibilities: </strong></p><ul><li><p>Supervise and lead underground crews on construction projects. </p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Operate excavators and other heavy equipment (10,000–50,000 lbs) for trenching, excavation, backfill, and related tasks. </p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Read and interpret underground electrical drawings, site plans, and utility layouts. </p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Ensure work is completed according to project specifications, safety standards, and local codes. </p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Coordinate daily work plans and communicate clearly with project managers and subcontractors. </p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Enforce and model safe work practices and OSHA-compliant job site protocols. </p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Complete required reports, documentation, and field logs accurately and on time. </p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Identify underground risks and implement best practices for safe trenching and excavation (sloping, shoring, shielding). </p></li></ul><p></p><p><strong>Qualifications: </strong></p><ul><li><p>Minimum 5 years of experience in underground utility work and heavy equipment operation. </p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Proven ability to lead field crews and manage daily tasks. </p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Proficient in reading underground electrical drawings and construction plans. </p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Valid Operator’s License for Heavy Equipment. </p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Strong understanding of OSHA regulations and underground safety protocols. </p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus. </p></li></ul><p>  </p><p><strong>Preferred/Required Certifications & Training: </strong></p><ul><li><p>OSHA 30 </p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Confined Space Entry </p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Trenching & Excavation </p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Competent Person Certification </p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Silica Awareness / Ladder Safety </p></li></ul><ul><li><p>First Aid / CPR / AED Certification </p></li></ul><p>  </p><p><strong>Physical Requirements: </strong></p><ul><li><p>Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. </p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Work in various outdoor conditions. </p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Ability to safely access confined spaces and trenches. </p></li></ul><p></p><p></p><p><strong>If you meet the qualifications outlined above and are ready to contribute your skills to the team at Hays Electrical Services, we encourage you to apply.
