Description

Agency Overview: Doorways is an Arlington-based non-profit agency helping individuals and families create pathways out of domestic violence, sexual assault, and homelessness, leading to safe, stable, and empowered lives. We envision a community where all people live free of violence and have safe and stable housing regardless of their gender, race, ethnicity, age, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, abilities, language, or national origin. We see a future without homelessness or domestic and sexual violence. Doorways began in 1978 when a group of concerned community members saw there was no safe place in Arlington for families in crisis. What began then with one shelter and one response has grown into a series of pathways individually tailored for adults, youth, and children seeking safety and shelter. From immediate crisis intervention to counseling, housing, and employment support, we offer real options and multiple pathways for people of all ages and genders—women, men, youth, and LGBTQIA+ people. Position Summary: The Community Education Manager reports directly to the Director of Communications, Outreach, and Advocacy and is responsible for leading the team planning, coordinating and implementing primary prevention, outreach, and community education around intimate partner, sexual, and gender-based violence in Arlington County. The role of the Community Education Manager is to develop strategy, structure, and reporting mechanisms that capture the full extent of Doorways’ community education, outreach, and primary prevention work in-place, identify gaps in our prevention, outreach and education services, and facilitate ways to serve those gaps. Community education includes community outreach and primary prevention efforts; informing the Arlington community about Doorways’ services; providing regular trainings with partners such as law enforcement, hospitals, and the court system; and leading initiatives during awareness months and Pride events, with a particular focus on under‑resourced and historically marginalized communities. This position will be responsible for designing and implementing programming, managing community education budgets, operations and activities, and reviewing and updating annual program goals and objectives. The Community Education Manager regularly assesses the progress and effectiveness of education, outreach, and prevention programming, as well as fulfills reporting requirements for the agency and for program funders. The Community Education Manager will supervise two team members. This position requires a flexible work schedule, with many events and meetings often occurring outside of typical business hours, including early mornings, late evenings, and weekends. Essential Duties and Responsibilities : Regularly assess and update annual Community Education goals, objectives, and action plans. Continuously review outreach, primary prevention, and community education existing curricula, conduct research on emerging field trends, and participate in relevant professional development trainings, in order to facilitate dynamic and relevant educational programming. Develop and cultivate new relationships and manage current relationships with various community stakeholders, professionals, service providers, and partner agencies to support outreach efforts, contribute to a coordinated response to intimate partner violence, and provide education programming at the individual and community level. Manage and support direct reports by coordinating weekly check-ins, identify training needs, keeping a consistent flow of communication, and providing supportive feedback and opportunities for growth. Develop and manage program policies and procedures for recording and managing programming requests, materials, resources, and evaluation and reporting data. Lead and collaborate on Doorways’ outreach efforts, promoting public awareness and access to programs and services by arranging Doorways representation in the community. Serve as a leader, advocate, and liaison representing Doorways in community coalitions and committees as they pertain to enhancing violence prevention services and educating the community on safe and healthy relationships. Represent Doorways at speaking events related to intimate partner, sexual, and gender-based violence response and prevention efforts. Maintain and update the monitoring and evaluation plan and procedures to regularly assess program effectiveness and performance. Prepare statistical and program reports for agency reports and funders on a regular basis. In partnership with the Director of Communications and Advocacy, establish and manage program budget and expenses and review regularly with the Chief Development and Strategy Officer and the Chief Financial Officer. Agency Responsibilities: Demonstrate alignment with Doorways’ core values and mission. In partnership with Doorways staff, assist with Doorways’ clients and community events (i.e. community events and speaking opportunities). Attend and actively participate in meetings. Compile and report relevant data and statistics. Maintain current industry knowledge and best practices. Adhere to agency policies and procedures. Maintain CPR/First Aid Certification Other duties, as assigned. Knowledge and Skills Needed: Degree in Social Work, Public Health, Education, Nursing, or a human services field and experience working in the field of intimate partner/sexual/gender-based violence, human trafficking, and/or advocacy. Experience supervising and closely collaborating with other team members. Deep knowledge of primary prevention efforts and experience delivering prevention programming to children, youth, and young adults. Experience collaborating with public systems such as law enforcement, the courts, social services, and school systems.
