Description
Data Capture Field Technician
Location: Victoria, BC
About us
At Niricson, we believe the world’s most critical infrastructure deserves better intelligence.
From hydroelectric dams and bridges to tunnels and industrial assets, aging infrastructure is a growing global challenge. Traditional inspection methods are often slow, subjective, and difficult to scale.
We’re changing that.
By combining robotics, AI, advanced sensing technologies, and data analytics, Niricson helps infrastructure owners make smarter, safer, and more proactive decisions about the assets their communities depend on every day.
Our technologies collect high-quality data from complex structures using industrial drones and proprietary sensing systems, transforming that data into actionable engineering insights.
We’re a team of engineers, innovators, and problem-solvers passionate about building technology with real-world impact.
As we continue to grow, we are expanding our field operations team to support infrastructure inspections across North America and beyond. Data Capture Field Technicians play a key role in deploying advanced sensing technologies, collecting critical field data, and helping deliver the insights our clients rely on.
This is not a typical desk job. Our field teams travel to unique locations, work with cutting-edge drone technology, and gain access to infrastructure few people ever get to see. Every project brings new challenges, environments, and opportunities to learn.
If you enjoy hands-on fieldwork, thrive in dynamic environments, and want to help shape the future of infrastructure inspections, we’d love to hear from you.
The Opportunity
Do you want a career that takes you around the world?
At Niricson, our field teams inspect some of the world's most important infrastructure assets—from hydroelectric dams and bridges to tunnels and industrial facilities across North America and beyond.
As an Infrastructure Drone & Field Operations Specialist, you'll travel to unique locations, operate advanced drone and sensing technologies, work alongside engineers and infrastructure owners, and help collect the critical data that keeps communities safe.
This is not a desk job.
One week, you may be inspecting a hydroelectric dam in Canada. The next, you could be supporting a bridge assessment in Australia or helping deploy cutting-edge sensing technology on critical infrastructure.
If you love technology, travel, problem-solving, and working in the field, this role offers an opportunity unlike anything else in the industry.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate and execute field operations.
Support our third-party data collection partners and/or clients in collecting data.
Collect data by operating various drone and sensor platforms.
Strengthen relationships with drone partners and clients while in the field.
Collaborate with internal teams to aid in the development of equipment and software.
Travel up to 50% of the time to support field operations.
Why You'll Love This Role
Travel throughout Canada and internationally.
Work with industrial drones and advanced sensing technology.
Access locations and infrastructure most people never get to see.
Collaborate with engineers, surveyors, pilots, and technology experts.
Help shape the future of infrastructure inspections.
Be part of a growing technology company where your ideas matter.
Gain exposure to drone operations, photogrammetry, infrastructure inspections, reality capture, and emerging sensing technologies.
Required Qualifications
Degree/diploma in Civil or Mechanical Engineering, Surveying, or Remote Sensing.
Experience in project coordination and communicating with project stakeholders (clients, subcontractors, service providers, internal teams).
2-3+ years’ experience in field operations.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills in a high-pressure environment.
Strong interpersonal skills and emotional awareness.
Willingness to work independently and be a self-starter.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
Experience with Surveying, GIS, Remote Sensing, or UAV-based inspections.
Proficiency in troubleshooting equipment, software, and hardware issues in the field.
Passion for photography with experience in optimizing camera settings for differing environments.
Experience and passion for interacting with external stakeholders.
Experience working with photogrammetry software.
Enthusiasm for drone technology and other data collection methods.
Demonstrated Competencies to be Successful in the Position
Integrity – Keeping your commitments to the team, customers, and Niricson’s stakeholders.
Detail-oriented – The ability to think critically about challenges, focus on objectives, maintain a disciplined approach to data collection, and be able to design efficient and effective solutions.
Resilience – Ability to work through difficult challenges and overcome adversity.
Work ethic – A commitment to delivering quality products on time to clients and to dealing with clients, third-party contractors, and Nircson’s team members collaboratively and professionally at all times.
Adaptable – The ability to manage dynamic operations, overcome barriers as they arise, and ask for support or guidance when needed.
We thank all applicants for their interest in career opportunities with Niricson, but only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an interview.
Compensation & Benefits
Pay: Starting base salary of
$75,000 Annually plus hourly-based overtime during fieldwork – we’re open to salary negotiations depending on experience
Equity Participation: This role includes a stock option grant because we believe the people building the future of Niricson should have the opportunity to share in its success. This provides you with the opportunity to participate directly in the long-term value creation and success of Niricson. We are looking for builders and owners who want to help shape the future of the company, not just employees along for the ride.
Additional Benefits:
Extended health benefits including dental and vision coverage, performance bonus, flexible working hours, paid vacation, and the opportunity to help shape groundbreaking technologies with global impact.
