Description
Under general supervision, assists in coordinating the day-to-day activities and operations of the radiology preparation area; ensure adherence to organizational and unit policies and procedures, and accepted Radiology protocols and procedures. Serves as a preceptor, mentor and resource to staff. Participates in the Quality Improvement process and utilizes the information to further enhance the quality of services provided by the department. Conducts training as required, participates in the demonstration of the use of specific techniques and equipment. Reports to Assistant Radiology Manager
Responsibilities
DEPARTMENT LEADERSHIP – Assists the Assistant Manager, Radiology in supervising and coordinating the day to-day activities and operations of the Radiology Department technical staff. Facilitates teamwork and cooperation among staff, effectively follows up and resolves routine employee relations issues, seeking support from Radiology Management with more complex issues. Participates in the selection, hiring and orientation process for technical staff; provides day to day guidance in performance of primary job functions and provides appropriate feedback and coaching. Identifies equipment, supplies and services issues; communicates with appropriate personnel, and follows through to resolve resource issues. Participates in a variety of administrative managerial activities such as the development, implementation, and enforcement of unit policies and procedures; follows up on incident reports; and maintains appropriate department files.
QUALITY IMPROVEMENT – Participates in the quality assurance program and utilizes the information to further enhance the quality of services provided by the unit. Reviews and monitors images on an ongoing basis to ensure quality and timeliness of work; uses monitoring method devices which are effective yet tactful and mindful of the needs of others. Communicates to staff changes in techniques as well as departmental and hospital policies. Keeps informed of new radiological procedures, equipment and methods; may participate in evaluation of procedures and equipment; reports findings and recommendations to the Manager.
TRAINING – Conducts training as required; may instruct in the demonstration of the use of specific techniques and equipment; attends departmental meetings, seminars, continuing education and in-service as required.
QUALITY ASSURANCE – Assists in maintaining Federal and state regulatory audits and processes. Oversees the maintenance of records or documents as required. May relate radiological service activities to other Hospital departments or service as required.
CLINICAL PRACTICE – Performs functions of a Staff Radiologic Technologist as required in assigned area. May perform other related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides work direction to all staff providing general diagnostic imaging. This includes but is not limited to make work assignments, distribute work, orient and train new staff, and provide image quality oversight to include all utilized digital systems.
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience Required:
Education Required: Graduate of Radiologic Technologist program accredited by American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
Experience Required: A minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a Registered Technologist and knowledgeable of pediatric general radiography imaging technology required.
License and/or Certification Required:
Must be certified as a Registered Technologist R.T. [ARRT] and maintain current registration in radiography [ARRT] with the American Registry of Radiologic Technology.
Current State of Connecticut Radiographer Licensure required.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR in adult, child & infant are required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Knowledge of:
General Diagnostic procedures, fluoroscopy, protocols and technology.
Department and organizational structure, workflow and operating procedures.
Skills:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to interact effectively with patients/families and all members of the health care team.
Ability to utilize computer systems (Clinical Systems) to maintain appropriate information pertaining to patient record.
Ability to:
Provide guidance and oversight to other team members.
Maintain a flexible schedule to meet patient scheduling needs.
Communicate technical information to non-technical personnel, patients/families.
Operate and train others to operate Radiographic Imaging technology.
Safely lift, and physically manipulate patients.
Monitor and/or maintain quality control standards.
Resolve customer complaints and concerns.
Utilize independent judgment to resolve problems and make decisions on routine managerial matters on assigned shift.

Facilitates teamwork and cooperation among staff, effectively follows up and resolves routine employee relations issues, seeking support from Radiology Management with more complex issues. Participates in the selection, hiring and orientation process for technical staff; provides day to day guidance in performance of primary job functions and provides appropriate feedback and coaching. Identifies equipment, supplies and services issues; communicates with appropriate personnel, and follows through to resolve resource issues. Participates in a variety of administrative managerial activities such as the development, implementation, and enforcement of unit policies and procedures; follows up on incident reports; and maintains appropriate department files.<br><strong>QUALITY IMPROVEMENT –</strong> Participates in the quality assurance program and utilizes the information to further enhance the quality of services provided by the unit. Reviews and monitors images on an ongoing basis to ensure quality and timeliness of work; uses monitoring method devices which are effective yet tactful and mindful of the needs of others. Communicates to staff changes in techniques as well as departmental and hospital policies. Keeps informed of new radiological procedures, equipment and methods; may participate in evaluation of procedures and equipment; reports findings and recommendations to the Manager.<br><strong>TRAINING – </strong>Conducts training as required; may instruct in the demonstration of the use of specific techniques and equipment; attends departmental meetings, seminars, continuing education and in-service as required.<br><strong>QUALITY ASSURANCE –</strong>Assists in maintaining Federal and state regulatory audits and processes. Oversees the maintenance of records or documents as required. May relate radiological service activities to other Hospital departments or service as required.<br><strong>CLINICAL PRACTICE – </strong>Performs functions of a Staff Radiologic Technologist as required in assigned area. May perform other related duties as assigned.<br><strong>SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES</strong><br>\n Provides work direction to all staff providing general diagnostic imaging. This includes but is not limited to make work assignments, distribute work, orient and train new staff, and provide image quality oversight to include all utilized digital systems.<br>\n </p>",
