Open: 05/27/2026 Close: 06/10/2026 POSITION: EXERCISE AND FITNESS PROGRAM SUPERVISOR SUPERVISOR: Registered Dietitian SALARY: Step Range: 25-44 - Full Benefits ($59,406 to $104,169 annually) CLASSIFICATION: Exempt, Regular, Full-Time LOCATION: Klamath Tribal Health & Family Services 330 Chiloquin Blvd Chiloquin, OR 97624 BACKGROUND: P.L. 101-630 Level POSITION OBJECTIVES The Exercise and Fitness Program Supervisor position is designed to facilitate, develop and provide exercise prescriptions for physical activity participants, clients, patients, and tribal employees. Develop regular organized activities to increase physical activity through exercise and communicate the importance of living an active and healthy lifestyle. The Exercise and Fitness Specialist provide a link between the community and other healthcare workers to develop and implement strategies to improve the health of individuals and the community. Routine duties shall include collection of data to identify community needs, planning group fitness activities, implementing policies and procedures for the fitness areas, monitoring patient outcomes, and evaluating the educational needs of the community. The Exercise and Fitness Program Supervisor serve as a physical activity education resource for all programs by providing health care-related service to individuals eligible for services provided by Klamath Tribal Health & Family Services in clinics, alternate job sites and other community locations within the Klamath Tribes’ Service area. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Provide quality Physical Activity Education services in alignment with Klamath Tribal Health and Family Services’ (KTHFS) strategic plan and the HEC’s scope of work. Serve as a health education resource to all KTHFS departments. 2. Consistently models appropriate behaviors, attitudes and skills that support the C.L.E.A.R. and H.E.A.R.T. customer-service standards to build positive relationships with patients and KTFHS employees. 3. Plan, develop, implement, coordinate and evaluate the Physical Activity Education needs for all departments within KTHFS and network with other KTHFS staff and team members to meet health education goals for Tribal patients. This will require strong interpersonal skills, ability to motivate and knowledge of Tribal culture and customs. 4. Develop and maintain thorough knowledge of referral resources throughout Klamath County. 5. Conduct physical activity readiness assessments of patients and coordinate with the interdisciplinary team. Document all direct patient care encounters in the electronic health record. 6. Coordinate with Health Education Team to promote healthy activities for children, adolescents, adult, and elder KTHFS patients. 7. Promote health Education Disease Prevention activities with the Health Education Team members. Promote and assist Health Education team with outreach activities. 8. Provide 1:1 personal training for KTHFS patients, KTHFS employees, and Klamath Tribal members. 9. Compile and submit monthly reports that may be required. All records will be maintained in compliance with the Privacy Act, HIPAA and Tribal program policies. 10. Consult and work with KTHFS employees in a variety of clinical circumstances to coordinate the health education needs of patients. 11. Oversee the KTHFS gym, associated equipment, and develop/revise policies and procedures for use. Introduce new users to the equipment and ensure safety features are explained and understood. When available, offer users a selection of exercise guides and resources to guide participants while they are at the KTHFS gym. Collect Release of Liability Forms and maintain a database of those submitted. 12. Work with health education participants in the preparation of meals and/or snacks, as needed 13. Provide support to individuals newly diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, and those enrolled in the weight management program to help them make sustainable changes to their health behaviors. 14. Participate with health fairs, set up booths/ exhibits and promotional material to include health education brochures, posters, etc. 15. The incumbent will be called upon to accomplish other tasks within their scope of work. 16. Like all employees of the Klamath Tribes, the incumbent will be called upon to accomplish other tasks that may not be directly related to this position, but are integral to the Klamath Tribes’ broader functions, including but not limited to, assisting during Tribal sponsored cultural, traditional, or community events that enable the successful operation of programs and practices of The Klamath Tribes as aligned with The Klamath Tribes’ Mission Statement. Some of these tasks may be scheduled outside of regular work hours, if necessary. SUPERVISORY CONTROLS Work is performed under the general direction of the Registered Dietitian. This position requires sound judgment, strong organizational skills, time management experience, and the ability to work independently with minimum direct supervision. The supervisor outlines the overall program objectives and priorities, time limit, and financial resources available. The employee plans and schedules recurring work, handles routine problems, and completes work using own initiative. Exercise professional knowledge and judgment in interpreting guidelines and applicability. Work is reviewed from an overall standpoint in terms of meeting objectives, effectiveness, and compliance with laws, regulations, policies and procedures. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES Exercise and Fitness · Knowledge of various physical exercises and basic musculoskeletal human anatomy gained through education and work experience. · Knowledge of social, cultural and economic factors of individuals and families to promote healthy lifestyles. · Thorough knowledge of community resources around health education. · Knowledge of principles of consultation and skill in obtaining information from clients, and coordinating the appropriate health education to the clients. · Ability to initiate physical activity programing and organize group fitness instruction. · Ability to write and recommend physical activity prescriptions as part of the treatment or prevention of chronic diseases, especially diabetes. Interpersonal skills · Ability to present ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing. · Ability to work effectively with peers, individuals and groups · Ability to work effectively as a team member · Ability to work with Native American populations; knowledge of the Klamath Tribes’ culture is preferred · A general understanding of cultural differences and have a strong appreciation of and respect for other cultures · Empathetic manners to deal with clients who may have multiple needs · Ability to display a non-judgmental attitude · Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during work Organizational skills · Ability to establish priorities, manage time and adhere to deadlines · Ability to be punctual to appointments, meetings, and group/individual therapy sessions · Ability to perform administrative tasks related to client documentation · Ability to plan and organize work effectively and independently. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION Minimum Qualifications: Failure to comply with minimum position requirements may result in termination of employment. · REQUIRED to possess a High School Diploma or Equivalent. ( Must submit copy of diploma or transcripts with application.) · REQUIRED to possess an Associate’s degree in a health and fitness or health science related field · REQUIRED to possess a Community Health Worker (CHW) certification or can obtain the CHW certification within 12 months of employment. · REQUIRED Four (4) years of direct experience working as a personal trainer or fitness instructor · REQUIRED Two (2) years of direct supervisory experience in health promotion and public health workforce · REQUIRED Proficient in work experience operating computer systems, data entry programs, Microsoft Outlook email, and Microsoft Office (Excel, WORD, Power Point) programs. · REQUIRED to work a flexible schedule, as necessary, to maximize program participation. · REQUIRED to possess and maintain a valid certification from one or more of the following agencies: National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA), American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), or American Council on Exercise (ACE) · REQUIRED to submit to a background and character investigation, as per Tribal policy. Develop regular organized activities to increase physical activity through exercise and communicate the importance of living an active and healthy lifestyle. </p><p>The Exercise and Fitness Specialist provide a link between the community and other healthcare workers to develop and implement strategies to improve the health of individuals and the community. Routine duties shall include collection of data to identify community needs, planning group fitness activities, implementing policies and procedures for the fitness areas, monitoring patient outcomes, and evaluating the educational needs of the community. </p><p>The Exercise and Fitness Program Supervisor serve as a physical activity education resource for all programs by providing health care-related service to individuals eligible for services provided by Klamath Tribal Health & Family Services in clinics, alternate job sites and other community locations within the Klamath Tribes’ Service area.</p><p><br/></p><p><u><strong>MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</strong></u></p><p>1. Provide quality Physical Activity Education services in alignment with Klamath Tribal Health and Family Services’ (KTHFS) strategic plan and the HEC’s scope of work. Serve as a health education resource to all KTHFS departments.  </p><p>2. Consistently models appropriate behaviors, attitudes and skills that support the C.L.E.A.R. and H.E.A.R.T. customer-service standards to build positive relationships with patients and KTFHS employees. </p><p>3. Plan, develop, implement, coordinate and evaluate the Physical Activity Education needs for all departments within KTHFS and network with other KTHFS staff and team members to meet health education goals for Tribal patients. This will require strong interpersonal skills, ability to motivate and knowledge of Tribal culture and customs.</p><p>4. Develop and maintain thorough knowledge of referral resources throughout Klamath County. </p><p>5. Conduct physical activity readiness assessments of patients and coordinate with the interdisciplinary team. Document all direct patient care encounters in the electronic health record. </p><p>6. Coordinate with Health Education Team to promote healthy activities for children, adolescents, adult, and elder KTHFS patients. </p><p>7. Promote health Education Disease Prevention activities with the Health Education Team members. Promote and assist Health Education team with outreach activities.</p><p>8. Provide 1:1 personal training for KTHFS patients, KTHFS employees, and Klamath Tribal members. </p><p>9. Compile and submit monthly reports that may be required. All records will be maintained in compliance with the Privacy Act, HIPAA and Tribal program policies.</p><p>10. Consult and work with KTHFS  employees in a variety of clinical circumstances to coordinate the health education needs of patients.</p><p>11. Oversee the KTHFS gym, associated equipment, and develop/revise policies and procedures for use. Introduce new users to the equipment and ensure safety features are explained and understood. When available, offer users a selection of exercise guides and resources to guide participants while they are at the KTHFS gym. Collect Release of Liability Forms and maintain a database of those submitted. </p><p>12. Work with health education participants in the preparation of meals and/or snacks, as needed</p><p>13. Provide support to individuals newly diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, and those enrolled in the weight management program to help them make sustainable changes to their health behaviors.</p><p>14. Participate with health fairs, set up booths/ exhibits and promotional material to include health education brochures, posters, etc. </p><p>15. The incumbent will be called upon to accomplish other tasks within their scope of work.</p><p>16. Like all employees of the Klamath Tribes, the incumbent will be called upon to accomplish other tasks that may not be directly related to this position, but are integral to the Klamath Tribes’ broader functions, including but not limited to, assisting during Tribal sponsored cultural, traditional, or community events that enable the successful operation of programs and practices of The Klamath Tribes as aligned with The Klamath Tribes’ Mission Statement. Some of these tasks may be scheduled outside of regular work hours, if necessary.</p><p><br/></p><p><u><strong>SUPERVISORY CONTROLS</strong></u></p><p>Work is performed under the general direction of the Registered Dietitian. This position requires sound judgment, strong organizational skills, time management experience, and the ability to work independently with minimum direct supervision. </p><p>The supervisor outlines the overall program objectives and priorities, time limit, and financial resources available. The employee plans and schedules recurring work, handles routine problems, and completes work using own initiative. Exercise professional knowledge and judgment in interpreting guidelines and applicability. Work is reviewed from an overall standpoint in terms of meeting objectives, effectiveness, and compliance with laws, regulations, policies and procedures.</p><p><br/></p><p><u><strong>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES</strong></u></p><p><u><strong>Exercise and Fitness </strong></u></p><p>· Knowledge of various physical exercises and basic musculoskeletal human anatomy gained through education and work experience.</p><p>· Knowledge of social, cultural and economic factors of individuals and families to promote healthy lifestyles. </p><p>· Thorough knowledge of community resources around health education.</p><p>· Knowledge of principles of consultation and skill in obtaining information from clients, and coordinating the appropriate health education to the clients.</p><p>· Ability to initiate physical activity programing and organize group fitness instruction.</p><p>· Ability to write and recommend physical activity prescriptions as part of the treatment or prevention of chronic diseases, especially diabetes. </p><p><br/></p><p><u><strong>Interpersonal skills</strong></u></p><p>· Ability to present ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.</p><p>· Ability to work effectively with peers, individuals and groups</p><p>· Ability to work effectively as a team member</p><p>· Ability to work with Native American populations; knowledge of the Klamath Tribes’ culture is preferred</p><p>· A general understanding of cultural differences and have a strong appreciation of and respect for other cultures</p><p>· Empathetic manners to deal with clients who may have multiple needs</p><p>· Ability to display a non-judgmental attitude</p><p>· Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during work</p><p><br/></p><p><u><strong>Organizational skills</strong></u></p><p>· Ability to establish priorities, manage time and adhere to deadlines</p><p>· Ability to be punctual to appointments, meetings, and group/individual therapy sessions</p><p>· Ability to perform administrative tasks related to client documentation</p><p>· Ability to plan and organize work effectively and independently.</p><p><br/></p><p><u><strong>Communications skills</strong></u></p><p>· Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in an oral format</p><p>· Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in a written format</p><p>· The ability to operate computer hardware and software at a level needed to effectively perform job functions. (<em>Must submit copy of diploma or transcripts with application.)</em></p><p>· <strong>REQUIRED</strong> to possess an Associate’s degree in a health and fitness or health science related field</p><p>· <strong>REQUIRED</strong> to possess a Community Health Worker (CHW) certification or can obtain the CHW certification within 12 months of employment. </p><p>· <strong>REQUIRED</strong> Four (4) years of direct experience working as a personal trainer or fitness instructor</p><p>· REQUIRED Two (2) years of direct supervisory experience in health promotion and public health workforce</p><p>· <strong>REQUIRED</strong> Proficient in work experience operating computer systems, data entry programs, Microsoft Outlook email, and Microsoft Office (Excel, WORD, Power Point) programs.</p><p>· <strong>REQUIRED </strong>to work a flexible schedule, as necessary, to maximize program participation. </p><p>· <strong>REQUIRED</strong> to possess and maintain a valid certification from one or more of the following agencies: National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA), American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), or American Council on Exercise (ACE)</p><p>· <strong>REQUIRED</strong> to submit to a background and character investigation, as per Tribal policy. Following hire must immediately report to Human Resource any citation, arrest, conviction for a misdemeanor or felony crime.</p><p>· <strong>REQUIRED</strong> to submit to annual TB skin testing and adhere to KTHFS staff immunization policy in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control immunization recommendations for healthcare workers. </p><p>· <strong>REQUIRED </strong>to accept the responsibility of a <u><strong>mandatory reporter</strong></u> in accordance with the Klamath Tribes Juvenile Ordinance Title 2, Chapter 15.64 and General Council Resolution #2005 003, all Tribal staff are considered mandatory reporters.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>Preferred Qualifications:</strong></p><p>· Advanced Degree in Public Health, Health Education, Kinesiology, Nutrition, or similar health related field. (<em>Must submit copy of degree or transcripts with application).</em></p><p>· Experience developing group fitness classes for diverse populations of all ages</p><p>· Experience documenting patient encounters in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)</p><p>· Experience working with Tribal Communities in Health Education and Disease Prevention Programs supporting Native Americans is preferred.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>Indian Preference:</strong></p><p>· Indian and Tribal Preference will apply, as per policy.
