Description

The Entertainment Community Fund (formerly The Actors Fund) , a nationwide human services organization that helps all professionals in performing arts and entertainment, seeks an Activities Coordinator for The Schermerhorn to enhance the lives of residents through the development and facilitation of a robust weekly activities program supporting community integration, socialization, self-care and mental health wellness. The Schermerhorn is a unique residence housing low-income professional in the arts, as well as formerly homeless adults and persons living with HIV/AIDS or struggling with addiction and mental health challenges. In cooperation with the onsite Entertainment Community Fund social work team and partner agencies CUCS and Breaking Ground, the Activities Coordinator develops, designs and implements activities and provides resources to support the needs and interests of the residents. Programs are held in person. R E S PONSIBILITIES The Activities Coordinator will work under the direction of the Manager of Arts Center and Resident Services and in collaboration with onsite social work staff, partner agencies and Mark O’Donnell Theater staff. Collaboratively this position assesses the interests, skills and needs of Schermerhorn residents to develop therapeutic activities designed specifically for the building’s special needs population, while maintaining the current calendar of options and traditional annual events. Programming currently offers job training and skills workshops, social recreation, seasonal terrace gardening, health and wellness workshops, cultural and arts-related programming, group off-site trips and holiday dinner celebrations. Activities are facilitated by the Coordinator and/or paid and volunteer group leaders. The Activities Coordinator also serves as a tenant contact for community questions and supports the Manager in the operations of the onsite multi-purpose performance venue, The Mark O’Donnell Theater. They will also work in partnership with other Entertainment Community Fund activity programs and collaborate with Entertainment Community Fund social workers and partner agencies to address resident concerns and community needs as they arise. The Activities Coordinator works closely with the Manager on all administrative responsibilities related to the program. Administrative responsibilities include maintaining and distributing a regular activities schedule, monthly calendar development, program and office supply maintenance, sourcing of program facilitators, coordinating food and décor orders for events, arranging transportation for outings, processing monthly expense reports and recordkeeping for the program while maintaining current policies and procedures which guide the program and reflect the overall values and goals of The Entertainment Community Fund. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college preferred • One to three years demonstrated experience in activities and/or education programs • Experience working with special needs populations • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams) required • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Ability to stand for several hours, must be able to lift up to 30lbs ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS • Required to occasionally work an adjusted schedule, which includes weekday evening or weekend hours PREFERRED QUALITIES • Background or experience in teaching artistry/education • Background or experience in gardening/landscaping • Knowledge and/or capacity to navigate Mailchimp, Zoom, NetSuite, Canva and Photoshop ABOUT THIS POSITION This is a full-time hourly position based at The Schermerhorn residence in Brooklyn, New York.
