Required Qualifications:
Residential life, conferences and/or student affairs experience and/or hotel operations and guest management experience
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated leadership experience
Problem solving expertise
High level of responsibility and energy
Experience working with college students
Desire to gain an extensive experience in residential facilities management and customer service
A customer service attitude
Interest in working with a variety of individuals from different cultures and experiences
Preferred Qualifications :
Interest in operations and customer service
Experience supervising young students
Supervisory experience
Experience in organizing large amounts of data utilizing the google drive primarily
Training in cultural competence Interest in operations and customer service
Accepted into a graduate program
Appointment Period :
The preferred dates are from the first week of June until the 1st week of August. Priority consideration may be given to those who can stay through the 2nd week of August, but understandably dates are flexible.
Training and preliminary online orientation may begin in late April or mid/late May.
Job Responsibilities :
Work collaboratively with Residential Education and Lifelong Learning, including communicating and responding to guest concerns promptly and accurately
Supervise the Conference Assistant team, including managing payroll and work schedules
Maintains room assignments for summer conference groups in collaboration with Residential Education
Create and manage a conference schedule, including but not limited to: room set-up and breakdown, laundry service, room changeovers, reports of customer complaints, and other building and staffing issues that arise
Oversee the coordination by the Conference Assistant staff of linen packet preparation for summer guests and the organization of the linen supply rooms to ensure quality control of linens, returns of linens from laundry service, and all other supplies in a neat and orderly fashion
Act as the first contact for conference workers in problem solving process
Organize the check-in & check-out procedures, including managing key & coordinating with Office of Public Safety and Dining Services in assigning rooms and meal plans to guests with assigned ID #’s created by IT
Be present along with at least one professional staff member at all check-in and check-out for conference guests (this includes some weekend work) Schedules can be coordinated between 2 interns
Keep custodial staff updated on occupancy and cleaning schedule(s)
Coordinate the linen exchange process to include removal of soiled linens, pick-up and delivery of linens, and linen inventory
Record and report all damages in residence halls to both departments
Assist in ensuring the health and safety of all guests by following site medical protocols
Serve as a mandated reporter & reports all violations to Director of Residential Education
Attend weekly staff meetings with Lifelong Learning as well as Residential Education to ensure extensive knowledge of residential operations
Assist with Lifelong Learning campus events in June as available and needed
Complete projects for Residential Education, Lifelong Learning, and/or the Division of Campus Life in interest areas (pending time availability)
Oversee the final return all cleaned linen inventory and supplies to the respective linen storage areas at the conclusion of the summer conferences program and final inventory counts
The intern is supervised by both the Director for the Department for Lifelong Learning and the Director of Residential Education. Management reserves the right to change position duties in accordance to office/department/institution needs.
Compensation:
The intern will receive a $3,000 stipend for the summer. The intern is also provided living accommodations in an on-campus room, location to be determined. In addition to the use of a campus shuttle that runs from the campus to the Staten Island Ferry, the intern will receive a subway card equivalent to 10 rides for their enjoyment and exploration of NYC. Finally, the intern will receive a full meal plan for the duration of their employment at the college.
