OrthoIndy Hospital Northwest, located in Indianapolis, Indiana, provides outpatient care and inpatient care, with 10 operating rooms, 2 procedure rooms and a 42-bed inpatient unit for patients undergoing more invasive procedures, such as disc replacement, spinal fusion or total hip and knee joint replacement. Other services include an urgent care, clinics, pre-op clinic, imaging and physical therapy. General Statement of Duties: The Nursing Technician Inpatient works under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN), performing a variety of tasks delegated by the RN, to care for patients. The Nursing Technician completes assigned tasks and reports information about patients to the RN. The Nursing Technician assists with daily living needs, records vital signs, and performs other skills as trained by OrthoIndy. Essential Duties: Assists with and documents activities of daily living. Observes, documents, and reports patient conditions and behaviors to the Registered Nurse. Obtains, documents, and reports vital signs and fluid intake and output. Reinforces patient and family education as directed by the Registered Nurse. Performs phlebotomy as directed by the Registered Nurse. Discontinues IV and urinary catheters as directed by the Registered Nurse and documents removal. Performs EKGs and bladder scans when directed by the Registered Nurse. Provides and documents skin care as directed by the Registered Nurse. Restocks linens and supplies on the unit. Assists in the cleaning of equipment, furniture, and surfaces using appropriate aseptic technique and returns equipment to appropriate areas as needed. Requirements: High School Diploma or GED required; specialty training beyond high school preferred Valid Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license required with 1-2 years of direct patient care experience, OR Nursing student with one semester of completed clinical rotations required, OR a minimum of 1-2 years direct patient care experience within a hospital setting with ability to earn a C.N.A. certification within six months of start date.
