Description
Position Overview
The Behavior Clinician works in our Children’s Behavioral Health Initiative (CBHI) program as part of the In-Home Behavioral Services (IHBS) team, providing families with support and interventions to address a child’s developmental and behavioral needs, such as ADHD, autism, and oppositional defiant disorder. The Behavior Clinician implements behavior modification plans and provides parent coaching. They strive to make an impact on the family’s quality of life, communication styles, and stability in the home. By traveling to the home at least once per week, often several times weekly, the Behavior Clinician works intensively with the caregivers and child on establishing structure and routines, developing independent skills, teaching self-regulation and self-soothing, and other behavior management interventions.
The Behavior Clinician works closely with the Behavior Monitor, as a two-person team while providing support to the guide and teach the paraprofessional how to implement the functional behavior assessment and treatment plan established with the family.
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the duties and responsibilities that will be required of the position, however, additional responsibilities may be required. Employees are expected to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
Essential Functions & Qualifications
Observe and assess goals/objectives needed to improve overall family/child functioning
Provide coaching and modeling for caregivers
Work closely with the behavior monitor to ensure plans are correctly implemented
Oversee necessary adjustments to the behavior treatment plan (BAP)
Complete written Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs)
Develop focused behavior management treatment plans, identifying goals and measurable objectives designed to improve positive behaviors and decrease or extinguish maladaptive behaviors
Document observations of the youth in school, home, and community environments
Create safety/risk plans as needed for times of crisis
Work as part of system of care team and attend regular team meetings to discuss progress
Perform interviews with youth, family, school personnel, other providers, state agency workers, natural supports, etc.
Call collaterals often to obtain clinical information and provide treatment updates
Observe child initially and periodically in school setting
Collaborate with school personnel regarding behavior plans in the school (e.g., Board-Certified Behavior Analyst, special education teacher, school adjustment counselor)
QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis- ABA (preferred); Autism, special education, social work, or other related human service field required
Reliable vehicle, proof of registration and insurance, and driver’s license required
Experience working with children on behavior modification
Commitment to highest quality of care
Sound and appropriate clinical judgment; strong interpersonal skills
Discretion regarding confidentiality
Demonstrated ability to model, teach, and support
Superior organizational skills; flexible and reliable
Ability to understand and implement agency treatment philosophy
Demonstrated ability to accept and provide constructive feedback
Skilled in working independently to meet clients’ needs, complete clinical electronic documentation, create work schedule, and reach weekly productivity expectations
Strong commitment to Italian Home’s values, philosophy, and mission
