Description Applied Technical Services, LLC, is a leading provider of critical testing, inspection, certification, and compliance services. ATS was founded in 1967 and is headquartered in Marietta, GA. Today the Company employs nearly 2,100 team members in over 95 locations across the United States. The Materials Testing Technician will support engineers in conducting analysis and sample preparation for materials testing in our Marietta, GA lab and occasionally at customer sites. These materials tests are used to determine the properties of advanced materials used in high tech applications such as aerospace, defense, medical devices, power generation, fire arms, forensic investigations, etc. The Materials Testing Technician will: Conduct sample preparation and assist in performing tests Gather data required for performing routine tests and interpret data on routine pass/fail tests Learn and follow materials testing and setup procedures, techniques and specifications Learn and become proficient at various build and fabrication techniques such as measuring, cutting, drilling, welding etc Build and fabricate custom test rigs and fixtures as need Learn and adhere to safety procedures Review job requirements and set up required test equipment Prepare work orders in accordance with QAP for testing to be performed Perform test programs and procedures to written instructions Interpret and evaluate results to applicable methods, codes and specifications Complete reports and documentation; use tools and technology to track work Procure supplies for lab with appropriate approvals; update inventories as needed Other duties as assigned Qualifications High School or GED; Associate’s degree a plus 0-2 years’ related experience; experience in a material testing laboratory environment preferred but not required Basic technical acumen with the ability to follow lab processes, test specifications, and perform routine tests Able to operate various types of lab equipment and tools with supervision; ability and willingness to be hands on with tools, machinery and equipment used in setting up tests and fabricating test rigs and fixtures Problem-solving skills with the ability to follow direction and complete tasks in a timely manner Good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to operate across other internal departments or functions Working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), maintain Lab ISO and process Safety procedure Additional Requirements: Physical Requirements: The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to ensure individuals with disabilities perform the essential functions. Work is performed mostly in a lab setting. While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift objects up to 55 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception Ability and willingness to work overtime (generally 10-15% sometimes more) and a varying schedule as required Ability and willingness to travel to job sites (construction, power generation and manufacturing sites) occasionally A valid driver's license with a good driving record ITAR U.S. Persons Only: A requirement of this position is access to information that is subject to U.S. export controls under the U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
