    "description": "<h2>Department Overview</h2>\n<p>The Department of Emergency Medicine at OHSU is home to over 150 faculty and adjunct faculty under the direction of Mary Tanski, M.D., M.B.A., associate professor and Department Chair. Our clinician's staff at OHSU's Level 1 Trauma Center and Doernbecher Pediatric ED as well as our three community Emergency Departments (Hillsboro Medical Center, Adventist Health Portland, and Columbia Memorial Hospital), three ED Observation Units, the Immediate Care Virtual Visits Program, and the Oregon Poison Center. The Department of Emergency Medicine at OHSU has always been highly ranked in NIH Funded Research and is home to the Center for Policy and Research in Emergency Medicine (CPR-EM). Our residency program currently trains 33 residents and offers a diverse training environment through partnerships at several area hospitals. OHSU offers EM specialty training in the form of select fellowships in: Research, Education, Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Administration, EMS, Toxicology, and Ultrasound. We are proud to serve OHSU's mission of Healing, Teaching, and Discovery.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university's missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. This position is under the supervision of the Chair, Department of Emergency Medicine. The duties of this position are in support of the missions, goals and objectives of OHSU and the School of Medicine.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>This position reports to (supervisor): Mary Tanski, MD, Professor & Department Chair, Emergency Medicine </p>\n<h2>Function/Duties of Position</h2>\n<p>Acting as an attending physician in the Emergency Department (including the ED observation unit and Pediatric Emergency Services) as assigned by the Chair; participation in education of medical and paramedic students, house staff and nurses; participating in Emergency Department quality assurance activities; and provision of on-line medical consultation.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Evaluate, diagnose, perform history and physical examinations, and initially treat patients, who present in the emergency department with any symptom, illness, injury or condition and provide services necessary to ameliorate minor illnesses or injuries; stabilize patients with major illnesses or injuries and to assess all patients to determine if additional care is necessary.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Administrative and other duties may be assigned based on department needs and your areas of expertise and interest, including opportunities to participate in departmental management and to serve on institutional committees.</p>\n<h2>Required Qualifications</h2>\n<ul>\n <li>MD or equivalent; Emergency Medicine Residency CertificateExperience: Knowledge, training and experience in clinical and academic Emergency Medicine</li>\n <li>Demonstrated ability to satisfy standards of performance delineated by law</li>\n <li>Ability to manage heavy workload with multiple priorities and inflexible deadlines.</li>\n <li>Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.</li>\n <li>Proficient in the use of computing hardware and software, including personal computing equipment, electronic medical records, word processing and spreadsheet software.</li>\n <li>Regular and consistent attendance at work</li>\n <li>ABEM or ABOEM Board certified or board eligible</li>\n <li>Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required if not yet board certified (no longer required once board certification is obtained)</li>\n <li>Current Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Certification required to have been completed at least once, even when board-certified</li>\n <li>A qualified candidate must have a current unlimited Oregon MD (or equivalent) license prior to start date. The provider must complete the credentialing process and be approved by the OHSU Professional Board to practice as an independent practitioner in an acute care/emergency setting.
