Position Overview
This is a regular student technical position which serves as Student Recording Assistant for the School of Music. The Student Recording Assistant supports live performance
recording, livestream production, and archival operations across multiple campus venues. This position blends technical precision with a service mindset. Furthermore, this position helps prepare spaces, manage equipment, and support sessions through readiness, awareness, and calm execution. The role emphasizes proactive preparation, attention to detail, and professional conduct in performance environments.
Hours per Week
15 hours per week.

The mission of the School of Music at the University of Central Oklahoma is to lead in musical excellence through transformative teaching, performance and scholarly activities.
Department Specific Job Functions
Assist with setup and teardown of audio and video recording equipment for concerts, recitals, and special events.
Support multitrack audio capture and livestream audio production.
Verify signal flow, clocking, and monitoring paths before performances.
Assist in session documentation and file management according to departmental
naming standards.
Perform end-of-session backups and archive organization.
Maintain recording spaces, storage areas, and equipment inventory.
Communicate clearly with Production Services staff and venue personnel.
Submit trouble reports or equipment issues as needed.
Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Successful Assistants:
Arrive early enough to prepare without rushing.
Run test recordings before talent arrival.
Keep workspaces organized and performance ready.
Label and manage files accurately.
Surface problems early and communicate clearly.
Maintain a steady and professional demeanor.
Enrollment Requirements
Fall/Spring Semesters : All student employees must be enrolled at least half-time to be eligible to work any UCO student position. Half-time enrollment for fall/spring semesters is considered 5 hours for graduates and 6 hours for undergraduates. International students must be enrolled full-time to be eligible to work as a student employee. Full-time enrollment is 9 credit hours for graduates and 12 credit hours for undergraduates.
Summer Semester : Student employees working regular student positions must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours to be eligible to work during the summer. Students not enrolled in summer classes must be enrolled in fall classes in order to work during the summer, but they (and the department) will be required to pay FICA taxes. Student employees working FWSP positions must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours (if undergraduate) or 5 credit hours (if graduate) in order to work during the summer in a Federal Work Study Program position.
Enrollment Exception : If the number of credit hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum number of hours required for student employment, the student must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor (stating the number of hours needed to graduate and anticipated graduation date) and submit it to Human Resources. This pertains to both regular and Federal Work Study Program positions. Contact [email protected] for more information.
Qualifications/Experience Preferred
Audio Engineering, Music Technology, or related majors.
Prior experience in live sound or recording environments.
Sophomore, Junior, or Senior classification preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Basic understanding of audio signal flow (microphones, interfaces, mixers, DAWs).
Familiarity with digital audio software (Pro Tools experience preferred).
Strong attention to detail and organizational ability.
Ability to follow structured workflows and documentation standards.
Professional communication skills.
Calm and attentive presence in performance environments.
Ability to lift and move audio equipment (stands, cables, small racks).
Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff.
