Description

Description The Role Weatherford is seeking a Metallurgist to support failure analysis efforts in our downhole Rod Lift division. This role is based in Mumbai and centers on analyzing failed downhole components to determine the root-cause failure mechanism involving, but not limited to, fatigue, corrosion, and overload. You will collaborate with lab technicians, engineers, and field staff to organize, prioritize, and conduct investigations to ensure timely and accurate technical reports. Key Responsibilities Conduct detailed root-cause failure analysis on downhole components. Analyse fracture surfaces to identify failure mechanisms. Conduct microstructure analysis to assist in determining underlying failure causes. Prepare and examine specimens using grinding, polishing, etching, hardness testing, and microscopy. Work closely with product line personnel to plan and prioritise multiple investigations. Direct lab technician regarding scheduling and prioritizing multiple failure investigations. Produce clear and concise technical reports on finding and conclusions. Report findings and updates to internal teams and customers. Support ongoing product improvement through failure trend analysis Experience and Qualifications Required Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Materials Engineering, or related discipline 5–6 years’ experience in metallurgical failure analysis Strong hands-on experience with fracture analysis, microstructure evaluation, and root cause investigation Proven ability to assess failures involving fatigue, corrosion, overload, and related mechanisms Experience working in a lab environment with sample preparation techniques (grinding, polishing, etching, hardness testing) Ability to determine failure causes from incomplete or ambiguous data Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing Preferred Exposure to non-destructive testing methods (e.g. dye penetrant, eddy current, magnetic particle) Experience working in cross-functional or global teams Prior experience guiding or coordinating technicians or small teams Weatherford is a global energy services company delivering innovative, reliable solutions to the oil and gas industry.
