Our mission exists to build relationships with our neighbors and share hope in brokenness. We target neighborhoods that are underserved. We have a staff size of about 80 where we have after school programs, sports performance center, houses for women in sex trafficking, men and women transitional homes, two coffee shops, equine therapy, immigrant welcome center,and other forms of ministry to love our neighbor</span></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(67, 67, 67); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; font-weight: bold\">Role Summary</span></p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(67, 67, 67); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt\">The After School Mentor will walk closely with a small group of students, creating a safe and encouraging environment where they feel seen, supported, and loved. This role involves escorting students to and from programs, engaging them in meaningful activities, and partnering with families to ensure holistic care and connection. Mentors will use trauma-informed practices, de-escalation strategies, and positive behavior modeling to support students’ growth socially, emotionally, and spiritually.</span></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(67, 67, 67); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; font-weight: bold\">Responsibilities</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(67, 67, 67); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt\">Escort an assigned group of students to and from after-school programs safely and consistently.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(67, 67, 67); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt\">Build Christ-centered, caring relationships with students, mentoring them through daily interactions, conversations, and activities.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(67, 67, 67); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt\">Be fully engaged with the assigned group during program time, fostering belonging, respect, and encouragement.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(67, 67, 67); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt\">Partner with other mentors and staff to ensure students are supported in their academic, social, and emotional needs.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(67, 67, 67); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt\">Practice trauma-informed care by recognizing and responding to the unique needs of students who may have experienced adversity.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(67, 67, 67); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt\">Use de-escalation and conflict resolution techniques to help students manage emotions and restore relationships.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(67, 67, 67); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt\">Intentionally work on building students’ communication skills, encouraging self-expression, active listening, and respect.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(67, 67, 67); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt\">Model appropriate behaviors such as patience, self-control, empathy, and healthy boundaries in all interactions.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(67, 67, 67); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt\">Interact with parents and caregivers at events, building trust and strengthening connections between home, school, and community.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(67, 67, 67); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt\">Live out BLOC’s mission of being a good neighbor and embodying hope in the midst of brokenness.</span></li>\n</ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(67, 67, 67); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; font-weight: bold\">Qualifications</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(67, 67, 67); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt\">Experience working with children/youth in an educational, ministry, or mentoring capacity preferred.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(67, 67, 67); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt\">Knowledge of or willingness to be trained in trauma-informed care, conflict resolution, and de-escalation.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(67, 67, 67); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt\">Dependable, consistent, and able to commit to 4 days a week.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(67, 67, 67); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt\">Strong communication and relational skills with both students and parents.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(67, 67, 67); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt\">Ability to model patience, grace, and healthy boundaries.</span></li>\n</ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(67, 67, 67); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; font-weight: bold\">Schedule &amp; Commitment</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(67, 67, 67); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt\">Time: 3:15 PM – 6:15 PM, 3 days a week (Mon, Tues, and Thurs)</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(67, 67, 67); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt\">Location: Onsite at IDEA School Project</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(67, 67, 67); font-size: 10pt\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">May be asked to be available for additional events at the school to interact with students and pa</span>rents.</span></li>\n</ul>",
