Responsibilities
Nocturnal Nurse Practitioners (NPs) have an important role within the OakBend Medical Group’s Hospitalist Program. Nocturnal Nurse Practitioners work with patients who may be suffering from severe illnesses or who may be in critical condition. The primary role of the Nocturnal NP is to care for patients with complex, acute conditions.
Nocturnal NPs provide complex monitoring and develop multifaceted treatment plans for adults and gerontology patients. They focus on preventing future complications while improving the health of the patient. The Nocturnal NP role also extends beyond clinical practice to include administrative, teaching, and research components.
Qualifications
Minimum Education
Graduate of a Nurse Practitioner Program approved by the State of Texas.
Minimum Work Experience
At least 2 years clinical experience preferably in a hospitalist program.
Required Licenses/Certifications
-Current State of Texas license to practice professional nursing.
-Certification by the American Nurse Credentialing Center or National -Certification Center in area of specialty or the American Association of Nurse Practitioners or the American Certification of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Certification.
-Certified in Basic Life Support; current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Demonstrates commitment to provide exceptional, compassionate health care for our community, regardless of ability to pay by integrating our culture and values in all internal and external customer interactions through excellence, integrity, ownership, and compassion.
Uses interpersonal and verbal communication skills to educate patient/family on care and resources; participates in process improvement and multidisciplinary clinical outcome improvement activities utilizing advanced nursing expertise.
Provides assessment, triage, and therapeutic management of patient/family needs throughout the disease process as an integral part of an interdisciplinary team, according to the age/needs of the patient/population served; acts under the authority and supervision of the attending physician in accordance with regulations, hospital policy, protocols, guidelines and clinical pathways.
Obtains comprehensive medical histories including social, family, and past medical history; performs physical examinations; reviews/orders diagnostic tests and radiographic results based on the patient’s present illness and medical history; formulates and manages patient treatment plan and outcomes.
Performs a thorough physical examination based on the patients sex, age, medical history and present complaint.
Collaborates in the development and evaluation of patient care; establishes and monitors appropriate level of care for patients.
Assess, educate, and provide referrals for the patient, family and caregivers based on the medical needs of the patient.
