WellSpan Waynesboro Med Surg is a fast-paced, 35-bed unit that prioritizes patient-centered care. Our unit is dedicated to providing high-quality care to adult patients with a wide range of acute and chronic medical conditions. Med Surg specializes in assessment, treatment, monitoring, and recovery of patients requiring medical management, post-operative care, telemetry monitoring, and interdisciplinary support. Our team is composed of registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and nursing assistants who collaborate to deliver compassionate, evidence-based care focused on safety, healing, and positive patient outcomes. We pride ourselves on teamwork, communication, and advocacy for all.
General Summary
Provides nursing care to patients at an advanced level of practice. Takes patient vital signs, assists with procedures/examinations, administers medications, assists patient with activities of daily living (bathing, feeding, etc.) and instructs patients and their families in appropriate care.

Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
Under appropriate supervision, administers and controls narcotics and medications. Provides general nursing care and personal care assistance to patients, including bathing, dressing, eating, changing bed linens and bed pans and positioning. Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital standards. Helps patients get into and out of chairs, lifts patients, raises patients in beds, and turns the patients. Checks patient's vital signs. Charts results of various tests. Monitors medical condition of patients and reports changes to appropriate personnel. Prepares patients for scheduled procedures to assist in patient assessment. Assists physicians with examinations, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care. Arranges for patients' ordered diagnostic and therapeutic services. Provides health care instruction/education to patient and family members. Ensures accurate maintenance of patients' medical records and that patient records are treated as confidential information. Performs a variety of nursing administrative duties. Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment. Common Expectations:
Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population. Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and provides appropriate, age specific treatment. Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s). Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required. Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation. Prepares and maintains records of patient charges.
