Description
Mission is located on the unceded, ancestral, and shared territory of the Stó:lō Peoples, specifically on Leq’á:mel, Semá:th, Máthexwi, Kwantlen, Sq’éwlets, and Katzie traditional territories in the lower mainland of BC. Nestled on the southern coastal mountain slopes overlooking the lush Fraser River Valley, Mission is a rapidly growing and dynamic community of approximately 41,500 residents, 20 kilometers north of the US border and 70 kilometers east of Vancouver. Although Mission is part of a broader metropolitan area, it still maintains its distinct and welcoming small-town flavor.
The City of Mission is seeking a compassionate and proficient individual to join the RCMP detachment as a Victim Services Case Worker. This position is integral in delivering vital support services to individuals who have experienced crime and trauma, aimed at providing crisis intervention, guidance, and necessary referrals. You'll be at the forefront, offering immediate emotional aid and information at crime scenes and significant events, and collaborating with various agencies to ensure victims receive comprehensive support.
Responsibilities include offering support during police emergency call-outs for incidents such as crimes, serious accidents, and domestic conflicts, while providing crucial emotional help to affected individuals. You'll be expected to assist in police notifications, facilitate service referrals, and offer support throughout court proceedings. You will also prepare and maintain required records, statistics, reports, and correspondence related to the program. Additionally, part of your role involves training and guiding volunteers.
Key skills required for this opportunity include a strong knowledge base in crisis intervention techniques and experience documenting client interactions. You must be capable of working effectively under stressful conditions and possess the ability to guide and train volunteers. Proficiency in using RCMP computer programs like VSIS, PRIME, and JUSTIN is required.
The position requires completion of grade 12 (or equivalent), supplemented by courses in social sciences or related fields such as sociology, psychology, or criminology, plus considerable experience in a police environment or victim services program is crucial. Possession of a British Columbia Driver’s License and an RCMP Enhanced Reliability Clearance is required.
This role presents a fantastic opportunity to be part of a team committed to offering vital emotional and logistical support to individuals in distress. If you are driven to support and guide both victims and volunteers with expert care, we invite you to apply and make a meaningful impact with the City of Mission.
The hours of work for this part-time position are currently Mondays and Tuesdays from 11:30 am to 6:00 pm and Fridays from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm with the ability to pick up additional shifts. The 2025 hourly rate of pay is $34.82 plus a comprehensive benefits package.
