Description

POSITION: Residential Specialist PRIMARY FUNCTION : This position provides supervision and health and safety support to patients in residence, consistent with the program’s clinical policies and procedures. Is part of a team of paraprofessionals who are responsible for providing 24-hour support services, in collaboration with Peer Counselors, that maintain a therapeutically sound clinical milieu that helps the patients as they develop new skills in early treatment and recovery. SUPERVISED BY: Operations Manager of Evergreen Manor CLASSIFICATION: Hourly non-exempt position eligible for overtime; can expect to work some holidays, evening, night and/or weekend shifts with differential/additional pay for designated hours or shifts. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversee the health and safety of residents who have substance use disorders and often co-occurring mental health disorders who have engaged in intensive long-term residential treatment for pregnant and parenting women with children. Duties include but are not limited to: Provide professional, affirming care and oversight for residents at the facility, or a section of the facility, and complete all shift reports on resident activities to supervisor and clinical staff, including: Record any resident illness noting nature of the illness, actions taken, date and time of occurrence, and temperature (if taken). Coordinate residents’ transportation to appointments, community meetings, and/or medical appointments. Transport residents as needed using ONLY company vehicles. Ensure property and resident safety. Ensure children are sleeping in their assigned beds, cribs or bassinets by video. In addition, residential monitor will make personal rounds of all resident rooms at least twice between 5PM and 12Midnight, then hourly between 12Midnight and 6AM, recording observations in the communications log. Will monitor for co-sleeping mother-baby dyads as outlined in a sleep contract or arrangement and report accordingly before shift end. Make appropriate entries info communication log and shift reports on resident activities, incidents, and accidents. Complete incident reports as required by organization policy. Oversee and sign off on resident housekeeping duties. Immediately report to clinical staff residents who leave, or intend to leave, without prior approval. Search belongings of resident when they arrive back from outside appointments or passes. Also search children’s belongings when dropped off for visitations. Monitor residents’ self-administration of medication, as assigned, documenting in accordance with agency policies and procedures. Enforce house rules with residents in accordance with training and policies and procedures that reflect trauma-informed service delivery. Maintain a professional demeanor at all times, reinforcing positive behavior change for residents consistent with the trauma-informed care philosophy of the program. Complete training as required by the organization (on computer or in person) in a timely fashion. Attend all staff meetings as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or designee. ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND FUNCTIONS: Strong interpersonal skills and ability to show compassion and empathy while maintaining professional boundaries and modeling appropriate interpersonal behavior, consistent with agency philosophy of trauma-informed, respectful treatment and resident care. Reliable work attendance and able to work assigned evening and weekend hours as well as some holiday (with additional pay for nights and weekends) as well as during snow, ice and other inclement weather. Works collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to assist residents who have high needs, may be undergoing post-acute withdrawal, and are often on medications for opiate use disorder. Interacts professionally with residents, visitors, other agency staff, and community agency representatives. Basic computer and keyboarding ability; experience with electronic patient records helpful. Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with 42 CFR, 45 CFR, and RCW 70.96A and related laws, as set forth in organization’s policies and procedures. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Displays personal stability, maturity, strong boundaries and a deep desire to learn and grow personally and professionally. Some understanding of alcoholism and drug addiction, treatment and recovery supports. Maintain a valid Washington State Driver’s License, acceptable driving record and be able to operate a company vehicle without restriction. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Offer of employment is conditional upon Criminal Background Check from the Washington State Patrol and ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and agreement to agency’s drug free workplace policies. Because this is a safety-sensitive position that requires immediate and emergent response to protect health and safety of infants and young children as well as some vulnerable adults onsite, you must have or become CPR and First Aid certified.
