This role serves as the primary on-shift leader, making real-time decisions to maintain flow, resolve issues, and deliver results without dependence on day-shift leadership.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Why This Role Exists</strong></p><p>- Alloy Engineering requires strong on-shift leadership to maintain production flow outside of normal business hours</p><p>- The Plant Manager in combination with Manager of Integrated Operations establishes direction, priorities, and systems — this role ensures execution happens in real time.</p><p>- Effective shift-level ownership is critical to meeting delivery commitments, maintaining quality standards, and controlling labor performance.</p><p><br></p><p><u><strong>Essential Functions and Core Responsibilities:</strong></u></p><p><br></p><p><strong>Production Execution &amp; Schedule Attainment</strong></p><p>· Own execution of the daily production schedule for forming and welding operations</p><p>· Ensure work is completed on time and to quality standards</p><p>· Identify and resolve bottlenecks in real time to maintain flow</p><p>· Sequence work within the shift to support overall plant priorities</p><p>· Maintain control of WIP to prevent downstream delays or accumulation</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Fabrication Flow Ownership</strong></p><p>· Coordinate workflow between welding, press brake, and upstream fabrication processes</p><p>· Ensure balanced flow of work across operations</p><p>· Adjust labor and priorities as conditions change</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Safety Leadership</strong></p><p>· Own safety performance on shift including hazard recognition and incident response</p><p>· Maintain disciplined work environment and PPE compliance</p><p>· Address unsafe conditions immediately</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Quality &amp; Workmanship</strong></p><p>· Ensure welds meet ASME, AWS and company standards</p><p>· Drive in-process quality discipline and containment of non-conformances</p><p>· Support root cause identification and corrective actions</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Labor Management &amp; Team Leadership</strong></p><p>· Lead and develop welders and fabrication personnel</p><p>· Assign work and optimize labor utilization</p><p>· Provide coaching, feedback, and performance oversight</p><p>· Support training and skill development</p><p>· Lead thru Visual Metrics – Safety, OTD, Quality, Productivity, Rework, and Utilization</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Shift Communication &amp; Coordination</strong></p><p>· Provide structured daily handoff to plant supervision and Plant Manager</p><p>· Escalate production risks early</p><p>· Ensure clear communication across shifts</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Problem Solving &amp; Continuous Improvement</strong></p><p>· Resolve technical production issues in real time</p><p>· Implement countermeasures to maintain output</p><p>· Support continuous improvement efforts</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Technical Troubleshooting &amp; Process Support</strong></p><p>· Serve as the first point of contact for technical issues impacting welding, forming, and fabrication operations on shift</p><p>· Troubleshoot weld defects, fit-up issues, distortion, and process inconsistencies in real time</p><p>· Interpret prints, WPS requirements, and welding symbols to guide proper execution and correct errors</p><p>· Support resolution of equipment-related issues (weld machines, fixtures, press brakes) in coordination with maintenance as needed</p><p>· Identify root causes of recurring process problems and implement immediate countermeasures to maintain production flow</p><p>· Partner with Engineering &amp; Quality to resolve complex technical issues and ensure corrective actions are sustained</p><p>· Provide hands-on guidance and coaching to operators to improve technique, consistency, and overall workmanship</p><p>· Ensure technical issues are documented, communicated, and handed off effectively between shifts</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Decision Rights</strong></p><p>· Decides: Labor assignments, job sequencing, immediate safety actions</p><p>· Recommends: Staffing changes, process improvements, equipment needs</p><p>· Escalates: Material shortages, quality issues, missed targets, safety incidents</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Success Matrix</strong></p><p>· Schedule attainment (OTD)</p><p>· Labor efficiency</p><p>· Weld quality and NCR rates (rework, NCRs (internal deviations), MRBs (customer facing deviations)</p><p>· Safety performance</p><p>· Workforce attendance and stability</p>",
